star trek not quite

Ok so i have an idea to convert an old model of mine of The Star Trek Enterprise(form the original series).
I am going to assume the Russians won the space race so the first thing is a colour scheme change. I can find no reference to a nuclear powered Russian aircraft carrier. so I shall rename her after their Kirov class battlecuiser the Ushakov (unless someone on here knows different and they did have a nuclear powered aircraft carrier) I am going to have a go at scribing some detail on to her as there is not much on the model. I am going to create a diaorama in which she is crippled after a massive space battle, and since she is a cutaway model i think she will lend herself to this quite well I have done a bit of looking on the net and since she is 1\650th scale there is only a choice of 2 antagonists in this scale the Romulan bird of prey or the Klingon battle cruiser (or i could throw scale out the window (I mean they dont really exist anyway) and go for Romulan war bird)).So here are some pics of her cleaned off (no decals any more).

Their first nuclear-powered carrier never got far enough to be named (personally, I think the US should've bought it and had it completed to US habitiability standards as a test ship; it could've been named after someone revered by both navies, Pavel Ivanovich Jones, a.k.a. john Paul Jones).  The only ohter name you might could use would be oen that appeared in one of the early ST:TNG novels.

Potemkin would make a good name for the ship. Has the advantages of being Russian, of significant historical value... and Star Trek canon as it is a name used for a "real" Federation Starship. IIRC the "real" Potemkin was lost at the Battle of Wolf 359 vs the Borg.

Should be an interesting build no matter the name.

Well, there was the Ulyanovsk class nuclear-powered carrier though this never was completed.



And the earlier Project 1153 OREL which never left the drawing board.

Either way though, this is a great idea you have and I can't wait to see the result.

Where do you guys find all this info lots of good advice love the Potemkin idea not sure how the scribing is going to work out not tried it before still beats the model just sitting on a shelf gathering dust.

Done the other half tonight busy cutting holes in the hull to show damage, had to separate the top from the bottom as well, I've realised I will have to put some inner decks in to show under the blast holes,more and more work.

Thats how I build! Give myself more and more work!  Excellent work on the rescribing  :)

Trouble is I was just going to put some blast marks on the hull then I started looking at some pics from space films of damage on those ships and I think oh yes I can do that,----and that------and that----- before you know where you are its gone from a simple idea to something else entirely. Haven't figured out how to do it yet but I am keeping the bits I am cutting from the hull as I would like to find a way of making it look as though they have been blown off and are drifting in space with the ship I did think about a length of fibre optic but I don't think it would be strong enough to support the plastic at far enough from the ship to look effective.

So this is where i am at now, thinking of cutting some of the edge away showing some superstructure in there not sure if it would be too much what do you think.

For the "floating off" sections maybe you could disguise a support behind the same type of stuff folks use to make clouds or smoke... sort of like a plume of pressurized air shooting out of the damaged section?

Of course, one or two section mostly detached but hanging one by the one "power conduit" is doable.

Some stretched clear sprue may, also, work.

There was a picture floating around somewhere of an Aussie dio of the Mad Max scene where the MPF Pursuit car is crashing through the caravan with bits flying all over the place that was beautifully executed, which may be helpful.

Unfortunately, I'm not because I can't remember where.

Hi all maybe I am working backwards but I thought I would create a backstory for this build. So here goes (I have been very loose with the original story so please forgive me all you hard and fast fans of Star Trek)

On the 13th of September 1959 the USER landed the first manned spacecraft the USSRSC 1701 Rasputin on the moon. It was piloted by Russian cosmonauts Loenid Popov, Svetlana Savitskaya and Aleksandr Serebrov.
10 years later the USSRSC 1701 F Igor manned ship landed on Mars and promptly vanished, a second craft was immediately sent to investigate the disappearance and found no evidence whatever of the craft. It was decided that no further flights to Mars would be made until the disappearance was solved. 30 years later the original crew reappeared and explained that they had been contacted by an alien race called zulcans and invited to their planet and after 30 years of of studying them the zulcans decided humans were ready for interplanetary travel and gave them the plans for a warp drive, and so we built our first warp drive ship and we began our exploration of space.
The first captain of the USSRSC Vladimir Putin was Jarod T Kirkovski.

Ok so i have started putting some decks in the blast holes, still got to add damage and paint some detail on the interior but i think like the progress so far (fare bit of filling and rescribing where the two halves of the hull stick together its been a real pain to get anywhere near a good fit)

hi all a quick update no where i am now

made some inner decks and started new colour scheme. no damage painted yet thought about using a heated soldering iron to do some laser damage don know if that would work.  what do you guys think.
