Title: Me-209J (from "Jumo" or from "junk")
Post by: ysi_maniac on October 06, 2018, 08:09:34 PM
Inspired in Me-209 v5, this will be an intensive "junk" model

Aft fuselage and cockpit from Frog Bf-109F

Nose from Airfix Fw190D

Tail fin tip from Frog DH Hornet

Center and leading edge of lower half of wings from Frog Bf-109F. Trailing edge of lower half of wings will come from Airfix Yak-9D

Wheels wells has been swapped, respecting leading edge.

Comparison with real things to give you an idea of dimensions and ratios

         length (m)   wingspan (m)   ratio len/ws
Fw-190A       9,00      10,50      0,86
Fw-190D      10,20      10,50      0,97
Me-209       9,74      10,95      0,89
Me-209J       9,86      10,80      0,91

Yes.  Tried similar and is difficult.  Many parts sources flowing together as one.

This is intended to be a Defence of the Reich fighter. So, I have some questions about armament, supplied here in form of pack that include ammunition too:

Are 4 x 20 mm guns enought to destroy with high probability a Boeing bomber?
Are 4 x 30 mm guns too heavy for a ligth structure like Me.209?
What if something between like 4 x 27 mm? An ancestor of Mauser BK27?

This is looking seriously good

Four underwing 30 mm is likely too much. What about a long-barrelled 3 cm MK 103 motor gun and four underwing 2 cm MG 151/20s?

I'd go with a motorkanone and two in the wings.

I believe 4 in the wings would mean that you are a sitting duck if any Spitfeurs are around. Even 2 in the wings means you lose maneuverability.

True, though it sounded like Carlos was going for a bomber-killer.

There were some Fw 190 models that had lots of guns. D12, D13, or something. Some Bf 109Gs were built with motorkanone, machine guns on the nose, and 2 kanone in the wings. I guess those were supposed to be bomber killers. A few 109s with wing guns came to Finland but the guns were soon removed. The pilots needed to be able to attack everything, and take evasive action. They felt the wing guns made the 109 too sluggish.

This drawing is not consistent: dihedral angle is not the same in front and in lateral view. Front view looks a bit better, but my model is barely between them :o ... honestly, I do not desire to correct the issue. >:D  :icon_crap: :icon_ninja:

There is not a whole lot out there.  I did see a blurry side view photo online, of the shorter wing version THe wingtip comes up to the top of the cowl.  Messing with the dihedral on a real aircraft is no small feat.  Look-It's not like there is one in a museum somewhere, or a reference book.  You have drawings some guy made and a few hazy photos.  If not correcting it to your best guess is going to keep you awake at night, by all means fix it.  Otherwise, let it go.  No one else will know.
