Fine Molds Curtiss FR3C-3 floatplane fighter
« on: December 11, 2013, 01:27:16 PM »
This is the real Curtiss racer that was turned into a fighter for the "Porco Rosso" anime movie. The kit departs reality in replacing the airfoil wing radiators with an external unit that is pylon mounted under the nose and adds pod mounted machine guns on the fuselage sides. I built this one OOB using paint and scrap-box markings to represent a U.S. Navy machine from the late '20s and early '30s. The Navy did actually fly Curtiss F6Cs on floats. I think this looks a hell of a lot better than the movie airplane that the kit has markings for.
The markings represent the Squadron Commander's airplane from Fighting Squadron Two(VF-2).

Nice! :))

She'd look good with the radiator put back in the wings & built as a land-based fighter, too. Maybe BdB could do that one - with spats! ;)
