Hello, Welcome to Beyond the Sprues'. I recognize you from over on DeviantArt. I'm a dragon type there too- named Rekalnus.
Your artwork would be a superb addition here. And since a lot of it goes on kit boxes, even more so!

First of all.
Thank you all for the welcome :)
I'm glad that you enjoyed my presence here as well as my work. :)

Logan, you said
" I've been a big fan for years"
- Just for curiosity - Where did you first saw my work (I mean, which site, cover box, book, magazine,...) do you remember?

 - Greg thank you for the tip about this forum and for the invitation.

- By the way 90% of the works that I'm going to post here are or were done for scale model coverbox. Only some were done for framework (as gift), magazines and books (It includes one that I did with a friend, Titled Luftwaffe Confidential).

Now some extra work

Boxcar - done for AniGrand
(http://www.eletronicmedia.com.br/duhr/profile/boxcar.jpg)

Ki 83 - done for A&W
(http://www.eletronicmedia.com.br/duhr/profile/mitsubishi-ki83.jpg)

The cover page of my book - the aircraft is a Fi 333.

and the back cover - The image is a Condor II (project developed, but not flown, by Kurt Tank in Argentina)

Amazon-US shows your book as Out-of-Stock.  Any advice as to where to find a copy?
Title: Re: Artwork
Post by: Geist on January 23, 2013, 09:19:05 PM
Hi Elmayerle
I already knew about it and I'll keep in touch with them and the publisher to try to solve it.
I opened a topic here in the forum

http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2573.0 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2573.0)

There you can find an entire list with the actual points where you can buy it.
But for now, probably, you will get only from Europe.
The bookstore that is currently selling it in U.S. is 15US$ higher than the European sites. : (
Sorry.

Besides it, at the link written above you be able to check two pages from it and its summary.
Any doubt, comment, suggestion - just tell me : )

This framework was done and sent as a gift to say thanks to someone who had kindly colaborated with us, in the book project, writing the forewords - Capt Eric Brown - RAF's CO of "Enemy Flight" at the end of WWII. (He flight-tested 53 German aircraft like Me 262, Me 163, He 162, Ar 234, Ta 154, among others)

For luck and coincidence the framework arrived almost at his birthday's day

He was very enthusiastically with it, what made me glad and proud.

Title: Re: Artwork
Post by: raafif on January 31, 2013, 05:00:26 AM
Nice art.  I too have liked many of the Luft 46 artworks.

I would really like to see art of some of our own whif-designs done in "in-flight" poses but eveyone with the talent seems to be too busy :( :( :( :( :icon_nif:

Maybe a good art-work might push a manufacturer to produce a kit of a whif ??

First, thank you for the comment. Now about the tip. It can works, certainly, and yes, fortunately I'm busy :) :) :)
Back to the point - do a list of possible "ifs" aircrafts, so with it will be able to check their availability, before starting any art. Once the choosen, in the mean time between projects, I can try to develope it.
What you think?

No problem, but there are two ways to do it.
I can print it to you or you can get it through DeviantArt.
In both situation you have to point the wished aircrafts and print size (aprox) and also the quantity.
I have more works that can be seen at Deviant (neuer-geist / Daniel Uhr) or at my site

Take a look and tell me.

I really love that twin-engined type in Brit markings. My ignorance will show here, but does this illustration depict a captured Ta-154 on flight test?
Title: Re: Artwork
Post by: Geist on February 06, 2013, 02:49:46 AM
Hi
Thank you all for the comments :)
Now I'm working in a B17, soon I hope, I'll post it here (It is for a cover box).

CptMike
Yes, it's a captured Ta 154 in a flight test released by Captain Eric Brown (CoE - RAF), who wrote the foreword of my book.
It was done still in Germany, despite of the Luftwaffe mechanics warning not to do it, once they couldn't guarantee the aircraft's flight regime quality.

Moritz, by now it will have the props, even because is for a cover box and has to be the closest to real as possible :) - but certainly the idea is interesting.
It is almost finished, I think. :) :)
I'm just waiting for the final approve. In this meantime I'm posting another cover box I did recently, is a Kfir for Avant Garde Model Company
I hope you enjoy it.

To me it and all box art seems way harder to do that the best kitbashes.

You are truely gifted-talented to paint like that.  Love it  :-*

Another winner!  For some reason though, I reckon the above image would look even better if the Do335 was wearing a shark's mouth...hmmm idea for future build. :icon_nif:

To be honest this is the first time that I heard this kind suggestion (concerning to the Do 335). But it can really work. I'll only have to study it. :)

Nice. Probably, because it's front is rounded like it.
I'll check it also applied in others german aircrafts such as BF 110, Stuka, .... (I only remember those for now - laughs).
Thanks and Cheers

Can't even put into words how impressed I am with your art.   :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Some are blessed with such talent.  You are.

Above still applies.  Is it more challenging (little/lot/not) to portray high speed as with Mirage III ?
Thanks for posting and look forward to more.  :)

Concerning to the question of being more or less difficult to portray high speed or not, for me is equal.
The main point is not only the object to be illustrated but which impression you want to give to the final scene.
Each situation (propeller, jet, rocket,...) has it's own specifics, problems.

Thank you very much for the comment. For sure I'll post more works. :)

Well, I was not asked to do it by the resin scale company (AniGrand) this can even be a suggestion for them. I talk with them and check. Besides it I can try, later, to the two seat version.

Hi here goes something a bit diffirent.
Here goes a short video with just some few steps from many I usually take to do my regular digital artwork.
As will be seen, I do my artwork in separate way, keeping always in mind the same light direction for both arts, aircraft and background, because at the end they'll be gathered in only one art board.
I hope you enjoy it. Doubts or comments are welcome.step by step (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zEIt8y3FsU#)

Thank you.
This F14 composes a scene - a training combat flight.
There's another aircraft (obviously) that is placed in the first plane, soon after is the Tom Cat (on the second plane) and finally the background (a high over the sea landscape)
I hope that soon they (client) gave me a "OK" sign and allow me to post here and in my website. :)

The B29 was for a magazine, the Bv 222 (kit/magazine) and the 119 would be for a magazine, but due to the short space in it, it was put aside :(

That's a great idea! :)

By the way, talking about kits.
Is there any site that I could reach the all companies email contact?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
How are you?
I'm just writing to invite you all to visit my new website.
There, there will be more than aircrafts, but they are still the main core of the website.
Also new areas such as news and downloads.
I hope you enjoy it.

I did just one more - 3 Dassault flying "close" to the Eiffel Tower rolling out blue, white and red trail.

I did some other covers like

and there still another cover that is not available now.

In the case of mustard I did some illustrations for the book, besides the cover.

I have not seen the British Secret Projects books. Great drawings. Do you know what volumes 2,3 and 4 will contain? Will you provide drawings for those books?

NB: BSP Volumes 1 and 5 are listed at Book Depository for Oct and Sept release.

Gorgeous work, as usual.  I quite appreciated your cover art for Tony Butler's recent book and the work you've done for French Secret Projects is just as enticing (with that title, I'd have bought it anyway, but your art just makes it that much easier to justify to myself).

Carl,
BSP 2.3. & 4 will likely again be upgrades to the original editions, much as Tony has stated that BPS 1 should have at least 25% new material.

I really aprecciate your comment as well as all the others done here :) Thank you all :) .
No, unfortunately I have no Idea.
Until now, nobody asked me to do the core book illustrations.
There's one cover that I mentioned (still not available for the public) that I think will be used in one the others BSP covers (2,3 or 4?), soon I will know and tell/show you.
I'm going to ask the publisher for further info about those 3 books and report it here.

Here I show few steps. They are divided in 5 steps and the main idea is to show the importance to know the aircraft structure before you start to draw, paint, illustrate or generate it in a 3D software.

Steps
1- structure lines (3views)
2- exploded view
3 - wind model photo
4 - 3d work
5 - rendered/finished illustration

I just got the BSP-5 book and I'm very impressed with your artwork. I've posted the MUSTARD + Soyuz image over on What If Modellers, and I also used it in a few tweets designed to promote both the book and yourself to interested individuals and audiences, with links provided to your website, of course.

I hope you don't mind: if you do, please let me know and I'll take them down, of course.

I do not mind. You can tweet and post as much as you want.
What I have to do is to thank you for it.

Thank you very very very much for doing it! :) ;)

By the way, I wrote a book with a friend about German projects called Luftwaffe Confidential (description can be found in my website)
and now I'm working in two other personal projects a book about some other German projects and my own biography (it will be fully illustrated - for sure - :) ). Those works are for 2017/18.

I can keep you informed, if it interest you - of course.

Best wishes,
Daniel Uhr

No, well...I'm actually half serious ;D

Some of the pictures in the book are mine (I'm Luca Landino), so if I can get some feedback and learn what and where I could improve with my works, I'd be really glad to hear.

BTW, my copy just arrived an hour ago, I've taken a quick glance at it and it's really awsome (love your MUSTARD pic on page 138!).

Speaking as one who worked intensively on the B-2, that's exceedingly well done.  About the only, very minor, nit I could pick is that while you just indicate the auxiliary inlet doors on top of the engine "nacelles", you don't seem to give the same level of indication to the APU exhaust doors just outboard of those "nacelles", or at least the one that would be apparent at this angle.

Glad to help; all the doors have the same blade seals, so they should show up somewhat the same.  I'm particularly familiar with the APU door on the starboard side because I was involved in "odds 'n' mods" to it, for some flight test specific systems, for the first two air vehicles.

Wow, it should have been great to be part of the process in developing it.
What I can tell is that it is a tough airplane to be painted.

Hi Daniel:

I was reading the discussion on the soon to be released book (August)  French Secret Projects 2: Bombers, Patrol and Assault Aircraft (http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,27908.msg290516.html) over at Secret Projects.

Another one of your awesome art pieces is on the cover. If it is okay with you, I'd like to display it here.

This is the Nord Minerve bomber firing its strategic missile.

For those who are not members of Secret Projects, the chapter list is:

Introduction (includes a section on prototypes built by the Frenchs for the Germans during the war)
1 - the first jet bomber (SO4000 and others)
2- a more reasonable approach (Vautour, Grognard etc...)
3- the quest for the supersonic bomber (SO 4060, Mirage IV etc...)
4- the Minerve Programme (Breguet, Dassault, Nord, Sud and the missiles underneath...)
5- ECAT (Magister, Alphajet, Jaguar and the loosers...)
6- In the field (Baroudeur, ramp launch, catapult launch ....)
7- COIN is minted (various...all no go)
8- Low speed VTOL (BTZ part 2, Caillette part 2, Labat, Bertin, Nord500 , Eurofar etc...)
9- Helicopters (WG-13, armed SA-330, flying cranes etc...)
10-Assault transports (Br941 , Hurel-Dubois,  civilian Transall, even military Caravelle ...)
11- Maritime Patrol and ASM (Alizé and Atlantic with radomes and protuberances, and numerous unproduced designs...)
12- Atomic Power (Sud nuclear Super-Caravelle , Sud Attila missile
13- I dreamt of saucers (Coanda, Couzinet, Pagès (!), Payen, SNECMA, Wibault)
14- Strangeways (flying infantry , flying car, flying armoured car, flying platform....)

Hi!
No problem, you can display as many as you want.
It's my pleasure. ;)
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
There are other covers, a recent done was for the BSP2 (British Secret Project 2) and BSP1.
The BSP1 I did initially one layout cover, soon after they asked me to do another layout. The first layout was used as ad.

Such a good painting.
Couple hundred those bring cold weather gear, ammo, food, etc to eastern front might (that is might) have changed things or at least timeline.
Could be 50s German built transport as they enter airplane industry again.

Thanks for the comment :)
Even if a few hundred had entered into service I think it wouldn't change anything, nor the timeline.
It certainly could be used to evacuate the troopers.

Looks great! 8)

I'd almost buy it just for the illustrations but my budget says that for something I'm not really into (Luftwaffe) I can't afford it. :-[

Who knows, you soon earn some extra money and buy it ;)

Hi

A recent work done.
Australian Canberra used in Viet Nam war

"...A84-247 was allotted to 2 Squadron RAAF for service in Vietnam in July 1967, and flew its first operational sortie on 14 July. It continued in operational use until 11 June 1968 when it returned to Australia for servicing followed by a brief posting to 1 Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) at Amberley Queensland. In July 1969 the aircraft returned to 2 Squadron and carried out its next operational flight on 19 July 1969. It remained with the Squadron until February 1971, undertaking its last bombing operation on 6 February 1971. This aircraft was used for both medium and low level bombing operations, and is known to have completed at least 680 operational flights in Vietnam. ..."

Anyway, High Planes does 'em in 1/72 (HPA072030):

The Canberra could carry 6 x 1,000lb British bombs internally in its bomb bay, but in Vietnam the only bombs available were US designed, and only 4 x 750lb US bombs would fit in the bomb bay (go figger...) – the drop tanks were removed and an additional 2 x 750lb US bombs could be carried (1 on each wing tip).  The bomb aimer would push the normal bomb release buttons for the 4 bombs internally but had to push the “Drop Tank Release Switch” to drop the bombs on the wing tips.

I think only the australian squadron had this wingtip rack. At least this point was highlighted by them (HPM).

I would imagine that the British bombs were fairly blunt, much like WW II bombs whereas the US 750 lb bombs were likely of the smaller diameter but longer Aero 2A series of bombs; I could see that making the difference.

Fair enough.  Gotta have fun.

One I would love to see you do sometime (no pressure though) would be the Blohm & Voss P 215 Night Fighter.

I'll get it in my list, for sure. It is an interesting aircraft like his little brother Bv 212  ;)

Thank you very much for the comment :)
This model looks really nice - I still have to buy this one and the monoplace version.
I don't have them in my collection ;)

Northrop N21 ...

Any background details on this N21, Daniel? On Secret Projects the N21 number is linked with a XP-61F piston-engined night intruder (to MX-563). But they also mentioned an N31 as a "proposed medium bomber - six Westinghouse J40 turbojet-powered flying wing".

A new work I did.
New in different ways.
New - because I finished recently.
New - for being the first time I do an Phantom F4C, I always wanted it but for some reason never got it done, and
New - for one great motive, it was done in a partnership with James Hunter (illustrator) who has being helping me (a lot) in an other project that involves aviation art and history as well.

In this project (F4C)he did the lines, basis colors and markings. I gave the volume applying lights, shadows and weathering. I hope you enjoy it.

The aircraft shown, here, was used in vietnam war piloted by Col. Robin Olds.

Besides I'm doing a survey for my Design master degree and it is related to aviation art.
So I would kindly ask you to fill the form and help me, if you do not mind.
