DH Comet 4FF FINISHED!
« on: February 02, 2023, 09:53:39 AM »
At the last second I decided to whiff it. The FF stands for FastFreight, and was one of the first jet cargo aircraft in the world my warped universe. Base kit is the Airfix Comet 4 B, which has been languishing as a real world build for over 20 years. Too late to do an interior, so I may not have the swing-tail fully open. Port side cargo door will not be opened, just an engraved outline.

Great job "CL-44-izing" a Comet Dave!
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Thanks! The CL-44 was exactly the aircraft I Googled photos of to set up the hinges and the telescoping top support.

Managed to add some interior, just so that the opening doesn't look bare. Still some paint touch-up to do. Random unreadable spare stencil on rear pressure bulkhead. Door leads to storage area.

Nifty build and why not.   :smiley:
With good backstory placard might pass at model show as the only swing tail cargo Comet.   Not widely known because was only the one.

Note:  Could do this with Vickers Valiant and B-52 for post bomber duty to serve as cargo haulers.

DONE! I believe that most of this kit was glued together about 25 years ago, then sat unfinished, with no landng gear, windscreen, or decals. Hauled it on to the bench a couple of weeks back, intending on just finishing it as a Real World model. Yeah, right.

HACKSAW, STAT!  ;D  For some reason this idea just came to me, and it called out to be done. Bits were procured from the spares box for hinges and top support bar, metal wire salvaged from a surgical mask nose bridge was cut into 'L' shapes for the actual hinges, scrap plastic for floors, old landing gear door for the stowage area door. Very rough around the nose area where decals fell apart, might touch it up one day.

That came out great! The interior/cargo deck looks good, too.
