Independant Free Trader - Bunjil - Completed
« on: March 16, 2020, 12:10:39 PM »
Time to Digitus Extractus and get onboard this.
Now everything is getting cancelled around me, plus I am now mostly retired (who hit me with procrastination stick when that happened ??)
I really have no excuses not to support this venerable site of modelling niceness.

Plus Sci Fi is right in my zone

One now wonders, what one can do with this

It was a pickup at a kit sale somewhere. Why ??  NFI !!!! Must have had something in mind at the time.
Lets see what evolves.

Always thought the Viggen had a slightly sci-fi look to start with. Be interesting to see where you take this, BT.

Replace the jet engine with a rocket and maybe do it as something similar to this:

Well a burst of activity.

Firstly the guy who previously owned this kit was seriously looking at updating it

These stores are magnificent and in 1/48 as well, probably planned to be masters for resin casting. Really really good work.

What I am doing to his Viggen though, well...... we shall see
This is where I am heading at the moment

Opened out the fuselage to be a different shape changed direction and massacred a couple of 1/350 Los Angeles Class Boomers.
Don't fret, they were both in a box, started and picked up at a Salvo's shop so no damage to any good plastic.
Although the Alfa Class Soviet subs are now also calling out somewhat.

That's an interesting start - good eye matching the compound curves on the subs with the Viggen fuselage.

Work is proceeding apace.
Of course my minds eye is seeing stuff, my skills probably cannot fulfill, but the vision is proceeding

Bits box is being raided for goodies and this is the underside at the moment

Whipped out some Shipping containers on the 3D printer and that is where the Free Trader idea came from.

I am now heading toward a Traveller (Sci Fi RPG from last century) style ship, something like a 400/500 ton Free Trader. This might make 1/144 scale maybe, I will have to scale it out a bit more and maybe make a bunch of smaller containers.

 Mayday...mayday...

Great source of inspiration! There is a lot of good stuff to be modeled in the Traveller universe.

I am a failure  :icon_sueno:
I wanted to just build this, quick knock together job, but sadly due to lack of will power it will now have to have lights.
Sorry about that ;)

To that end work on the forward sections using Surface Mount Diodes for the Control Deck and some random Fibre optics

I have now converted to using these excellent Electronics cable headers as connection points. It all then becomes very modular plugging stuff in using some (Carefully, very carefully) separated  Male pin headers soldered to each lead, which is just old type computer ribbon cable stripped out.

It. Is. Alive !!!

The blue are the donks (engines in other words) and some Breathing LED's as Beacons, plus the fibre option in the forward section.

Every intergalactic trade ship has to have some hull blemishes, or I wouldn't trust them to haul my cargo through the Kessel Run.

Concur, lot of travel and exposure to stuff.   Even intragalactic travel has its scrapes and bumps.
