I am going to participate with drawings of a second generation of P-38/51/82.
My goal is not to celebrate a WW2 going on and on, this will be just modern Mustangs and Lightnings, and in some dream of buying them for 1946 urgency, this could be related to the subject somehow.

The Lockheed Lightn'jets of 1946 may have inspired also the later design of the X-3!

Thinking NORAD twin X-3 interceptor had radar and its operator in one fuselage and pilot in other (probably left side).
Letz see: Sized up from X-3 to have two J47 or J58 or other in each fuselage and room for radar and armament.
Lindberg 1/48 or Revell 1/65 kit can be basis for 1/72 build of larger NORAD supersonic interceptor version. Maybe was RAF or RCAF not USAF.

On this planet, the years 1938 to 1946 were pacific simply, and the main factor for technological success were the yearly aircraft races at Rennö (in Norway). The jet engine was a crazy invention that remained in R&D labs, and piston engine was the best choice for racers unlimited category. Of course this was an international team race: English-speaking Allies against Rest-of-the-World (nicknamed Evil by US journalists)… See the Racer-51T in 1946 race:

Hey Tophe, thanks for the shout out, this looks good but It would need a donor aircraft or two for the booms (similar dilemma for the rocket B29)

And... facing the He-162 in 1945, the P-51D seemed outdated, the P-51H seemed not better enough, so a P-5162 was designed, first flight in 1946:
