Buccaneer for India ! - Finished
« on: July 20, 2013, 05:39:01 PM »
Right.. I am in :)
Thinking back to the Inspiration thread and Weaver's comment about an Indian Buccaneer there remains just one thing to do.... Make it happen ;)

So here we go.
Found an old Matchbox Buccaneer that had been somewhat cannibalized for another Bucc build so whizzed it together, using some Apoxysculpts to sort or replace the missing intakes.
Indian Bucc the Bhaala

Now the Indian Air Force do have a good development arm so I figured that given the Bucc role in the Indian Airforce as being strike interdiction they decided that perhaps using a hardpoint with external tanks was a waste.. so they bought the oversize tanks that were designed for the SAAF Buccs, and further modified those to give an integrated tankage/Hardpoint configuration.
So starting to see if my modelling skills can match what the minds eye has seen

Start of Tank Conversion

I am liking the idea of your modified slipper tanks with the integrated stores release units.  How many weapons do you envision being carried?  What is the maximum weapon weight for each stores station?

That is the one advantage to the Airfix Buccaneer in 1:48th scale that provided the SAAF slipper tanks so there is no need to modify the tanks.  :)

Ah, so it's all my fault is it?  ;)

Good start - pity you didn't mention the missing intakes first though: I think I might actually have a pair in the spares box...

Wow the guy makes his own intakes!

That in itself impresses me to no end.

Yes Weaver.. your fault.. but I really needed the prod along.. well done that man :)

Brian.. the intakes are not that good.. really.

Anyway.. progress this is a quick build not going to any great detail.. just more to get the idea over. A sort of Munitions quality model I do for club displays and the like.

So pretty construction is done !

The integrated tanks are really just the back half cut off and a half tube piece faired in, with a pylon internal.

It is undercoated now so next should be the finished product with the colour scheme I have planned.. pretty much just grey's as the Indian Airforce seemed to have that style during the 70's and 80's. Pink Mig 21 withstanding. ;D

It is really only munitions quality but here is my take on the Indian Buccaneer
The large S50 SAAF tanks were modified for the dual carrier arrangement plus a couple of other lumps and bumps.. which may or may not represent avionics updates and laser target marking added by the Indians

I used a mix of Soviet and Western bombs.. as the the Indian Air Force has both in their inventory.

Sort of came together even with the starboard wing repaint after dropping an airbrush cup full of thinners on it ...aaaarrrggghhhhh !

Nice camouflage scheme and of course the tank/bomb carriers are especially well thought out.

I'm risking a quote vortex to agree. One question - has that style of roundel always been the
standard for the Indian Air force? I have recollection of build of the Hawker Tempest ( the Matchbox
kit ) with something that looked a bit like the Imperial Japanese Crysanthemum crest...

 Great build in toto!
