Cross sections

kengeorge:
Help needed, my plea is for anyone's assistance in finding out the following. The cross section dimensions of the DC-8, Comet and VC10, along with seating arrangements, as I'm trying to work out if either aircraft could be an alternative to the 707/KC-135.
I have Googlbashed the net and found out about the Boeing 367-80/KC-135/707 as a baseline, but not about the others, so any info, pointers, websites would be great

Thanks in advance

Ken

You could start here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrow-body_aircraft

It doesn't list a diameter for the Comet, but IIRC it's 10'-6"

EDIT: Found a reference, actually 10'-3" OD

Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for

DC-8 147”

From page 28 of the DC-8 document on the Boeing Airplane Characteristics for Airport Planning page:

I've got the Comet I maintenance manuals at home - I'll have a look through the fuselage and cabin sections when I get back ...
