single float MC 72
« on: August 10, 2017, 03:30:08 AM »

so, as you all know, the MC72 was a racer seaplane, on twin floats, that achieved record speeds in its category in 1933 and 1934.

Here is its further development, that was planned (at the end of 1934, for 1935 : that is retro-futuristic, no?  ;) )
to break thess records by having only a single float.

In order to emphasize the diferrence with the previous model, it was painted blue :

Absolutely gorgeous, eric!

The yellow beaching trolley sets it off nicely.

Well done!

Wonderful model, thanks! :-*

I imagine another possible story: in 1931 when UK wined forever the Schneider trophy for seaplane races, all observers said the future for sure must be a Schneider 2 trophy to go on the same way. That is the context why the MC72 was designed (for the future cup 1933 that never came?), then the single-float version (for the future cup 1935, waited in vain)… Does that sound retro future enough? I think so… ;)

It does look very believable with the single float.

As to a reborn Schneider Cup, back in 2005 IPMS-Seattle had a Schneider '49 club build:
http://www.internetmodeler.com/2005/may/aviation/Schneider.php

In all there were over 70 entries, unfortunately mine didn't make it off the bench.  :-X

Yes, thank you all. I think I knew this one from the web, I will have to check (very soon, back from holidays).
At first I thought you were referring to a float version of the Marton X/V (twin-boomer from Hungary with 2 DB engines) but you are right this is a Me109(ZX from Belgium by Mike Millette says the text). Thanks again!

A very stylish reconfiguration. I'm a bit skeptical that the Italians would paint their world-beater in English colors, but it's a good looking finish, regardless.

Wow.  This looks like the right place to drop my first post...

First off, that looks AWESOME! Great paint job and it looks razor-sharp.  I'm a huge fan of the Macchi racers... especially the M.52.

What kit did you use to pull this off? Are there any WIP pics?
Thanks!

ad welcome  ;)

the kits are, simply, the 1/48 MC72 by SMER, and the floats from a Tamiya 1/48 Rufe

Ericr, in order to celebrate your great model, could I add here the drawing of a (twice more powerful) version without external floats: zwilling single float… (MC-72 ZSF) for Shneider Cup II in 1939 ? ???

Thanks!
I am not immediately ready to post it, but I am working on it (the source is a svg vector file from Wikipédia, and I have to unlock every little piece of drawing, before putting them together in order, this is long but the final result will be plesant I guess).
The profile is done (with enclosed canopy), I am now working on the front view, I am not sure the upper view will be necessary.
Thanks again.

this one should be built in plastic !
I thought maybe I could "build" it as photograph, but on this road, I have discovered a new derivative:

No more lateral float (said the futuristic speech in 1935)! Active stability on the single float will be enough, with big increase in speed!

thanks a lot for this transcendental version of my humble build, it is spectacular !

maybe I will have to find a pair of MC.72 to make it in 3D ...
