That sure makes me wonder how hard it would be to build a Catalina with in line engines......

A Lightning P-38, even truncated and turned seaplane must be a twin-something (not only twin-engine), so a Twin-Catalina low part seems a good idea... ;) ??? :-\

Ooo, the Lightning with scale-o-rama Twin-Catalina floats is very nice  :)

The last two are especially nice.

Your work is very pleasing to the eye, mon ami!

Great stuff, Tophe!

The Twin-Mustalina was more "logical":

totally amazing !

and do-able in plastic ! I might try someday ...

These gorgeous scaleorama'd Catalightnings -  :-* - give me an idea: Catalina hull (without tail or with the tail and rudder incorporated into the Lightning tailplane?) with Lightning cockpit incorporated into the hull. Wings and engines from a Lightning airframe (sans cockpit nacelle) mounted on the Catalina's pylon? Kinda like a fighter-sized Bv 138 Flying Clog.

EDIT: Just had a dig through the stash and found a 1/144 PBY and a 1/72 Lightning. The PBY hull looks a tad small. Should be much easier on the eye with either a 1/100-ish PBY to go with the 1/72 P-38 or - perish the thought  :o - go Quarter Scale with a 1/72 PBY and a 1/48 Lightning.

Anybody know where to find a 1/100-ish Monogram Catalina or two?  :P

A twin-boom version was very possible too:

Very nice.  :D
This first one (in post #59) is almost what I thought. :) I thought about mounting the Lightning without the cockpit nacelle on the Catalina's pylon (the thing connecting fuselage to wings) and fairing the Lightning's cockpit (just the canopy basically) on the Catalina's hull. I suppose the Catalina's vertical rudder would attach to the Lightning's horizontal rudder.

Love the Ekranoplan versions. :-*
