Now that's pretty cool!  I wonder how 2 1/144 PBY planing hulls would fit on a 1/72 F-82.
Then I would add the other Allison to the rear of the engine nacelle, Savoia-style.  Longer range rival to the Saro SR.A1!

How would your first version look using an F-82 instead of a P-38?

What if you add inverted gull wings to the second version?

Crbad, if you can find the Aeroclub set of vacuform floats you could build them all.....

What to use for the curved wings is the question.....
It seems, according to Google, there are models of "snecma coléoptère 1/72" by Mach and Planet. That could give 4 quarters-of-circle wings for 2 models (like P-82 AND P-51)...

Tophe, you'll need some really, really big floats for a F-82 floatplane. The max T.O.W. for a F-82 is almost the same as a DC-3 (F-82 = 25,591 lbs, DC-3 = 25,199 lbs)and here's a pic of a DC-3 with floats (it was real world too with one still surviving today)

No:
- I "will need" nothing because I am not an engineer, endangering the life of pilots, I am a dreamer, "could" should replace "will";
- "really really/real world" is not my focus at all, I prefer dreams;
- the weight of my P-82 is not above 25,000lbs but below 1lbs, this is not a huge machine, this is a little paper/screen-picture (or maybe a plastic toy someday).
Thanks anyway... ;)

These gorgeous scaleorama'd Catalightnings -  :-* - give me an idea: Catalina hull (without tail or with the tail and rudder incorporated into the Lightning tailplane?) with Lightning cockpit incorporated into the hull. Wings and engines from a Lightning airframe (sans cockpit nacelle) mounted on the Catalina's pylon? Kinda like a fighter-sized Bv 138 Flying Clog.

EDIT: Just had a dig through the stash and found a 1/144 PBY and a 1/72 Lightning. The PBY hull looks a tad small. Should be much easier on the eye with either a 1/100-ish PBY to go with the 1/72 P-38 or - perish the thought  :o - go Quarter Scale with a 1/72 PBY and a 1/48 Lightning.

Anybody know where to find a 1/100-ish Monogram Catalina or two?  :P

And ChernayaAkula: I al working on your idea (if I understand it). Thanks also.
EDIT: I tried:

Very nice.  :D
This first one (in post #59) is almost what I thought. :) I thought about mounting the Lightning without the cockpit nacelle on the Catalina's pylon (the thing connecting fuselage to wings) and fairing the Lightning's cockpit (just the canopy basically) on the Catalina's hull. I suppose the Catalina's vertical rudder would attach to the Lightning's horizontal rudder.

Love the Ekranoplan versions. :-*

YES! It's perfect!  :-* Just what I imagined. Gonna have to build that one day!  :)

If I could get the floats it would be buildable.

Thanks a lot, both of you!

Now I may have invented something: middle wing floatplane without pylons and with nose propellers clear above water... ;)
