1/72 RCN Stuff
« on: November 13, 2023, 04:01:43 AM »
RCN builds to get done first. I have few kits on the go:

1. A Trumpeter Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 with a contra-rotating propeller. There was a proposed Bristol Centaurus engine, the CE.12.SM, for the Boulton Paul P.105A
2. An Airfix Fairey Firefly MK.V with a contra-rotating propeller. A MK.IV was tested but not put into production. Propeller and spinner from a Pegasus MB.5
3. An AZ Models Supermarine Spitfire MK.XVI with a Seafire tail and stinger hook.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

The stinger rudder and tailhook can be made with some judicious trimming and sanding.  But what Seafire version are you making with a Spit XVI?

What happened Carl?

To answer your question Greg (Carl check's his excuses Rolodex ... flip flip flip, yes, this will do), the dog ate the instructions.

To be fair, all three are about 50% completed.

The stinger rudder and tailhook can be made with some judicious trimming and sanding.  But what Seafire version are you making with a Spit XVI?

It would be a F.MK.50.

The backgrounder. I am burdened with a Glorious Purpose to expand the Spitfire, Seafire, Spiteful and Seafang universe. Yes, I am a big Loki fan.

The starting point is any airframe not used by the RAF and FAA becomes is assigned an export model designation. The spreadsheet shows in glorious detail how I will shim in a lot more builds.
I skipped the the 20's and 40's as they are already in use. However I will be adding a few to these ranges.

The F.MK.50 is a Seafire based on the MK.IX / MK.XVI airframe but with a stinger tail hook. The Special Hobby kits come with lots of extra parts so that is the source of the tail hook. A very easy mod.
The differences can be by propeller, canopy type, tail type, wing type etc. Lots of combinations and permutations.
I take requests.

It is a work in progress.

If I didn't already know, that spreadsheet would confirm that you're teetering on the edge of insanity, if not well over it.  ;D

I'm doing something similar.  My plan is to do Spit 27-29, Seafire 40-44, and Seafang 32-39.

Is that really an issue in doubt?  We are talking about Carl here… ;)

I knew right away that Carl had lost it when he created a spreadsheet...

That sounds like the blurb for a Larsen cartoon. ;D
