Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback!

So the shipping costs are the main obstacle. We will have to think "small & light", then.

In my case, I can send a 250gr (slightly less than half a pound) package to basically anywhere in the world for 4.1 Euros (4.6 USD app.), using standard air mail.
I can live with that, but what do you think would be a feasible value to pay?

Let me build a small business plan with 2 different scenarios, just to evaluate the economical viability  of the project.

One year time frame for this seems about right.

Cheers

Antonio

Not sure even that works Antonio, Guy (Old Wombat) was given a price of US$50 for shipping a pair of 1/48 wheels. I was told C$35 to ship some 1/72 ball turret bits so even small and light is very expensive. This was shipping from North America to Australia though --

Thanks for the feedback.

Those values are really discouraging... :(

But I have seen US e-bay sells, in which the shipping cost to Europe is about 10 USD for a 1/72 kit ( small one) using USPS First Class Mail International Service.
Is there any special discount for e-bay sellers, or any other trick that I am not aware of?

Sorry to bother you with this questions, but I am just trying to understand those absurdly high prices.

And sorry for the "off-topic" too!
If the forum administration sees fit, please remove these "non-related to new GB themes" part of the thread to a different topic,
in order not to adulterate the original purpose of this topic.

To send a 0.2kg object from Los Angeles, CA to Portugal, the US Post office calculator says the cheapest cost is $14. It goes up rapidly from there.

No kidding!!  It cost me $25 to mail a 1/72 A-7 canopy to KiwiZac in NZ.

It seems Australia and NZ are really outrageous! What’s the deal?
Is there a way to model something and have it fold flat for easier mailing? Just trying to be creative. Something out of card stock or plastic card that could be assembled at the next stop? Or is it all by weight?
This sounds like fun except for the postage. What if we kept it divided into regions as previously mentioned? North America, Europe, SEA etc.

A few suggestions

From star wars - an ugly GB.

Damnation alley inspired - get from A to B in the post-apocalypse of your choice (desert planet, waterworld, zombie outbreak, nuclear wasteland)

Tongue in cheek inspired by sparky and his various"Gavins" - take a single vehicle and take it to (il)logical extremes.

We had a gunship GB, what about a dropship GB (conceptually could include helicopters and tilt-rotors, not just the sci-fi interpretation).

How about a "classic kits" GB, you know for those antique Airfix, Frog, Matchbox, Monogram or Revell artifacts most of us have in the stash?

The only rule would be that it's a classic kit, build it however you want and have fun but still don't even ask about rule #6.

Any chance we can get a Civil GB added to the poll, if only so I can watch it go down in flames again?

 ;D ;D ;D

As for the classic kits idea, I was thinking to be generous with the criteria, and if we had to set a year, maybe go with anything originally released before 1980, re-pops/re-boxings allowed. Much of Revell of Germany's 1/72 line are re-pops of old Revell US, Monogram and Matchbox kits that are readily available and very reasonable.

Mr GTX had a stunning suggestion and maybe we could add oldest kit in stash as an option and call it Oldies But Goodies GB. This seems like it would broaden appeal and increase participation.

Thanks again for the discussion and consideration.

Idea from today's morning "Let's make model out of it".
I.e. take a toy and make a model of it. Can be anything, Kinder Surprise figure, toy plane with additional details and decals, snap-fit Star Wurst X-wing-thingy repainted and weathered...

Err...go down in flames??  Since 2014, we have had:

  • Anything But Military GB
  • The 2016 Annual "Non-Military" GB
  • The 2017 Annual Clear your workbenches GB
  • Racing Theme GB - which was done as the 2018 "Non-Military" GB[

In fact, we should probably plan on once again establishing a 2019 Annual "Non-Military" GB - I will put it in the list.

I think I suggested a firefighting GB a few posts back but that would fit in fine with a civilian/Non military GB

Whatever the decision is on the number and themes of next year's group builds I would propose a year end Clear Your Workbench GB.

Forgotten Fights GB - basically a GB for those lesser known conflicts.  For example, the North Russia Relief Force in 1919 (where for example Australians were awarded 2 VCs) or The Chaco War (1932–1935) between Bolivia and Paraguay.
