This Northrop B-27 is great

Now I'll have to find a suitable donor to turn this beast into plastic

Did I say it's too tempting?

  Thanks , everyone!

Rafael, a key element can be a B-26. If you notice, I morphed the tail of the Segundo wind tunnel model just a bit to make it a marauder tail, plus the rest of it should work except the glass nose which can be swapped for something solid. The wings need to have lots of taper at leading and trailing edge and a thick cross section to accommodate a buried engine(s). Maybe a 72nd scale Marauder and a 48th scale C-47 or outer panels of a B-17 or JU-88.

Something a bit odd for me, a VSTOL design light transport.

Was challenged by a fellow aero artisan on Deviant' to try a design. There are a lot of these out there, from Moller skycar to the Osprey's, here is my kitplane idea. Its as ugly as I am, but utilitarian to the nth degree. Runway, water , even WIG performance.

This is probably more on the lines of a passenger or cargo van and is not as low cost as originally desired. But this will fly in 3 modes- An aircraft, Flying boat amphibian (amphibian means that it can run from water to land without anything more than a ramp or flat beach) and as a WIG craft or ground-effect or ekranoplan machine.

Using ducted fans each driven by 200hp recip or rotary Wankel engines, the first two with their wing can tilt from zero to 60 degrees, the drawing shows 45.

The orange forewing acts also as floats for amphibian landings. The red wings are fixed and provide the most of the lift, making this a Canard design. The yellow wing and green fans mounted on them are moving parts, the after green ducted fan is fixed for forward thrust. The body in blueand the clamshell nose in violet.

I was not interested in aesthetics, just economy, utility and safety (uses a ballistic chute for the entire craft) and adaptability. In terms of looks- its a flying dumpster.

There is room to seat 10, a cargo ramp in the back and the nose opens in a clamshell like the Republic Seabee or the Waco Hadrian gliders.

The design should evoke similarities to many others as this is very prolific both in real and what-if designs. Some familiars will be the Moller Skycar, the Fairchild Hiller VSTOL designs of the 1960's and the V22 Osprey, plus AirHogs RC toys and even Movie flyers like the Samson and C22 craft in Avatar.
This is a well thought over and debated corner of aviation.

Back to the drawing board, I got a new flying wing and a racer in mind !

Has a very 'future history' look to it Russ.  By that, I mean artwork from the 50s that was supposed to represent something decades away.

Thanks Maverick, it does have a Popular Mechanics look to it and I was trying to compose the idea as a kit-plane which is a specialty of that level of enthusiast. Some local builders here are doing some really interesting kit planes, some are sport racers, fast as the unlimiteds and 40's warbirds now.

Newest Digital paint-

Had a design for a forward sweep racer, bicycle Undercarriage.

Decided to go with an Anthro* crew, Canine, Feline and a rep from the Skunk Works!

Might as well have it on another world too.

The universal language of pistons, hydrocarbons and aerofoils can be spoken anywhere !

  * Anthropomorph/ Anthropomorphic - The biological equivalent of our What-if Aircraft, Ships and vehicles. A combination of human and any number of creatures real or imagined. A definite art genre with a lot of surprising variations.

OK, here we go. Starting with just the design, I may have time for a extra whiffed fantasty version later.

This is a design from RetroMechanix online Magazine.

Basic Line Art.

With color and some shading

With more shading, details and backdrop- still essentially a cartoon though

And finally a "painted" version, All details , cockpit and full markings (fictitious) are in. Scene is the plane flying the "hump" from India to China.

You know me..... ;)

OK, here is the fantasied version of the Hc-57 Bellanca. It's a bit out-there so go with the back story first-

Wanted to do a fantasy illustration of the HC-57 with some characters I have not drawn before , and some flying mountains too, and needed a story line.

Lets try this one. In a second attempt to secure Pandoran mining of the element unobtainium, the RDA starts to quietly back factions in the native cultures who are bent on planet conquest versus peaceful habitation. The Idea this time is to introduce technology only and not involve large human presence at first. A sham air service, like the old Air America is set up using all native staff. The old C-57 craft, due to their easy maintainability and simple flight controls plus high lift ratio are placed back in earthly production for shipment to that world. The machines are used to carry forces and operatives between villages with modern weapons.

Pictured are two HC-57's beginning approach to a sky island airstrip clandestinely built in the flying mountains region.

The characters, names and original story line and movie are the property of Lightstorm and 20th Century Fox and Author J. Cameron, and not me.

Do not copy or use W/O my permission.

So --- I was working on a graphic idea and created a TwinBerra but didn't use it.

If you have a use for the graphic or idea, its all yours. Can be found on my Flickr gallery in big sizes.
