Title: TTomcat's small ideas
Post by: taiidantomcat on September 25, 2017, 03:27:57 AM
Unfortunetly I may not have time to construct Styrene for this GB, but I can still contribute some pixels. There is an old joke about A-10s being made from Spare B-25s parts:

(Havnt tackled the side profile yet)
My backstory is basically General Kenney's pacific mechanics coming up with a "sanpan killer" to harass Japanese Resupply in the Pacific and taking the Gun Nose B-25 to the next level. Recycling the B-25 parts while fabricating a new fuselage complete with a giant gun and lots of little ones, and putting fewer crew at risk in the process. I think they did try putting a 75MM on a B-25 but didn't like the results IIRC.

I toyed with this idea for days. You could go on and on with various combinations and iterations. If I went with the above in Kit form I could take the leftover B-25 and use A-10 wings and engines for example  >:D A-10 style B-25!!

I also think it would be pretty nice looking to take an He-219 Uhu and give it A-10 wings and engines as an Ostfront tank hunter. So I dragged out some parts and plans for a comparison. Certainly doable!

This could easily work with BF110, or any other slim fuselage with a twin tail at the back. As I whif more I try to find matching layouts and configurations. The sky is the limit!

I've thought about an A-10 in B-25 colours, but a kitbash of the two is just inpired. :-*

The He 219/A-10: He 219 with its original wings, but without the engine nacelles. Different main landing gear. Four Jumo 004s (two per side) in a configuration similar to the A-10's.

Use the engine nacelles from an Ar234C and have them under a side-to-side support beam where the a-10's engines are.

Very nice transformation :-*
Could you transform the profile also? (or delete it, for an all-propeller plane). Thanks.

More natural looking than this one I did years ago:

Ive thought about doing that same configuration just using the B-25 engines and nacelles. Maybe even have a "wing" connecting the engines maybe high or low (think sea plane) like a "T" with engines where the qoutes are there.

Like I said the sky is the limit. You could easily "A-10" a Pe-2 or BF-110.

Another idea:

Looking at the He162 mix the thought crosses my mind that the little Heinkel could have made an interesting light attack aircraft for the 50s with a Molins gun or similar and under wing rockets.

Until you tried to fire the gun...then it would get real 'interesting' for the pilot. ;D

Thanks for the additional profile :-* and the -162 way :-* ...

In place of a pair of 30mms? Scabbed under the fuselage?

I have read that there were serious concerns re the 30mm cannon and that the 20mm cannon were really the most practical option.  Going to a 57mm Mollins gun would have been ridiculous.  The He162 was extremely small and lightly constructed.  The recoil of the cannons (even those that it was fitted with in real life) would have imposed a lot on it.

Perhaps a more practical idea was the SG118 which at least reduced the recoil forces (I believe):
