I know, many of you are sick and tired of Star Wars, but that's the route I'm going anyway, but with a little twist. My son plays the X-Wing table top game (and I have played with him). I had in my supply of carcasses one more Smer Me 262B sans engine pods, and had long considered that the fuselage looks kind of space-ship like, so I decided to make an playable X-Wing ship model out of it. It will be 1/270 scale (approximately) as that is the general scale of the ships in the game (with exceptions). I'm calling the ship a sloop, because it is the right size (approximately) being between a corvette and a frigate in 20th-century terms, and because there are few references to any Star Wars sloops.
The photos show my starting pile of part (SPOP from now on!), followed by the first assembly (fuselage halves and wing center-section bottom, then the large ventral cargo hatch (a hatch from a 1/35 Sherman), and finally, the cockpit and vertical tail cutoff and an upper deck glued on, along with a "flying bridge" which was the tail end cut off an F6F Hellcat. I hope to post more WIP photos as I go. Please feel free to comment / critique..

The two photos below show the main engine housing, crafted out of 4 Sherman road wheels and a Hoplite engine cowl. I've got a lot more work done since then, but need to take more photos. I'll try to post more tomorrow.

I've got the major construction done now, and the first coat of gray paint has gone on. I still need to mask the canopy (which was the nose of a Airfix B-25J), add laser cannons and various greeblies and detail paint.

The Mon Calamari Shipyards are best known for their large capital ships and transports. However, they also built a number of highly effective smaller ships, including the FS-668 sloop. Most of these sloops were destroyed or captured by the Empire when Mon Cala was invaded and subjugated. However, several found their way into the hands of individual Mon Calamari who eventually received letters of marque as privateers in service to the Alliance. The most well-known of these sloops was one christened the "Gian-bee." The adventures of the Gian-bee and her crew entered into Rebel culture through the familiar song about her:

Got into a fight (yeah, yeah),

Thanks gents! This was my first space build since I built the LEM and Command Module in 1971. Frankly, I wasn't sure it would work out either, but it was fun! I appreciate the comments!
