I find myself slightly bemused by the design because I keep seeing this launching straight up into the air, with all the weight of the engine so far back. ???
Perhaps the canards set up to provide a strong nose-down pitching moment?  Alternatively, set the main wings at a positive angle of attack so that the lift, even at low speeds, cancels the effects of the weight wanting to pitch the back end lower?

HI Guys

Brian,  Thanks for the comments, always appreciate feed back.

elmayerle, Old Wombat, With 20:20 hindsight maybe the engine is a bit far back, however I envisaged it as a Jet Provost type setup, the weight of the engine only takes up the first quarter of the engine housing, the rest is Jet Pipe which will be balanced by the long Hull and as elmayerle rightly points out, the balance can be adjusted in the wings.

Anyway, I think it looks good which makes me happy and I'd rather be happy than right any day (thank you Slartibardfast).

Its all systems stop at the moment as I have a cold which makes it difficult to paint when your sneezing.

I'll be back soon

Am late, slow getting on board to build. :icon_crap:
Clever mix of parts and scratch building.  BdB preaches at blister pack pulpit and you have a fine example of possibilities.
Looks so fast and dangerous for driver, of course it would be.  Is extra creative.
Is J79 1/72 or box scale ?

Hi  finsrin

Thanks for your feedback

Model is 1/72 but engine was Box scale as far as I can remember (we are talking 1970 something here !), it just seemed to be the right size for the build.

I'm with BdB on bubble packaging front, It has so many possibilities for small scale buildings, sci-fi stuff and jazzy canopies.

Painting has started in earnest and as I predicted it’s not going swimmingly, partly because I have lost a lot of my skills, but also I am pretty certain the paint formulas have changed, back in the day I could paint straight from the tin (Enamel or the new-fangled acrylics) without the streaky problems I am getting now. (bad workman always ……?).

Despite three coats the blue on Jings! The finish is still bit patchy and the masking of the stripes had a bit of blue bleeding through (my fault that one!).
Getting rid of the bleeding is proving troublesome, light over dark aside, the blue is behaving like it hasn’t quite dried and is mixing with the white despite giving it over 48 hours to dry, I will persevere and give it a coat of rattle can racing gloss when I am finished, hopefully it will even out some of the shading.

Here is Jings! at the moment, still needing a bit of tidying up, some transfers found and the canopy fitted, given my newly acquired shaky hand I will probably use painted Sellotape for the frame.

The Land Rover is all but complete just trying to find some sort of number plate in the decal stash and maybe some other decals for decoration then I will gloss up the body work.

The beaching gear suffered another tow bar linkage breakage (damn you superglue!) so I cobbled another tow bar link using plastic rod and card, it’s not what I intended but will do, so the beaching gear is complete.

Please don’t look too closely at the wheels, another skill lost but I am working on it. My attempt at dry brushing the wire grille was also a bit patchy

Thanks guys, really appreciate the feed back,  good or bad.

Decided not to put any decals on Jings! except the name, I like her as she is, the canopy is on now but I am not going to show any pics until she is finished.

Had a bit of a set back, the white dry rub transfers I was going to use for the name had gone sort of...  err...  Dry, four expensive (circa 1975) sheets of letters and numbers have been consigned to the bin aaargh !  ironically the cheaper black ones all worked a treat which is good news but currently is as much use to me as a chocolate fire guard.

Found some Xtradecal white letters/numbers that would suit and they are on order, hopefully Hannants will be swift on the post and I can finish this build soon.

Thanks again for looking and for feedback.

Final pics coming soon........

Beautiful!!  That Land Rover looks a bit overwhelmed by the tow, though.

Ultra-light-weight materials used in construction means Jings weighs little more than the engine. ;)

Good enough!!  I can buy that.  Preferably ultra-light-weight and ultra-strong materials.

Thanks Guys, Old Wombat pretty much hit the nail on the head although I have to admit the land rover was an afterthought.

This is now screaming at me to do a diorama on the lines of Jings! about to be put in the water from a ramp or Jings! in the water up on the step going flat out just before the disaster but that will have to wait until I have rearranged the back bedroom.

Great job! The Landrover gives it a good sense of scale, too.
