1/72 RAAF A-10 Bushpig/Grey Viper

Hi all,
This is the Tamiya boxing of the Italeri kit, purchased at clearance price from a bookshop that was going out of hobby supplies (a couple of years later they thankfully got back into it with Airfix and Humbrol). It sat for a while as I didn't have any particular plan for it, then stumbled on the idea of a Royal Australian Air Force aircraft in desert camo. I got the kit together but ran out of steam while painting, so back in the box she went.

Fast forward another 3-4 years and I found some decals for a RW RAAF F/A-18 project, bought them, then discovered they weren't suitable. I thought about how to use them as it would be a waste to stash and forget about them...I saw the viper's head decals and got to wondering....

Very nice 'Zac! Those snake-head 3 Squadron decals suit the A-10 perfectly

Always thought the A-10 was a natural choice for Australia.
Those decals look great!

Well, the A-10 does more than shoot tanks. It’s very good at that but also destroys anything else that get in its way. IIRC I read an article or two on its effectiveness on shipping. Between the gun and couple of Mavericks it would take a thin skinned ship apart. If used as designed it could be based on remote strips all over Australia. Based on the original design and improvements over the years it could have been very useful.

Thank you folks, I'm pleased with how it turned out but to be honest I struggled to finish it more than anything in a while. I'm not sure why.

Very nicely built. I agree with Kerrick it would make a great anti shipping aircraft.

In any sort of contested environment, the A-10 would be decimated in an anti-shipping environment.  If it tries to get close enough to use its gun, it should be shot down by ship weapons.  Why would you even consider an A-10 compared to something such as an F/A-18, F-111 or otherwise in the anti-shipping role? ???
