I have 2 of these that are WIPs. 1 will become a HP Hesperus NF.1 with Hercules engines and turbinlite in the nose and the other a "Blackburn Bangor" - something of an enlarged Blackburn Blackburn:

After a bit of Canova or Burnelli influence to make it a wing body, the Whitley becomes a Electronics warfare platform. Equipped with the Jostle airborne director frequency jammer and piperack shield dipoles plus jammers for Wurzburg Riese and Freya.

The H.P.53 seaplane for the Swedes that formed the basis of the Dagger powered Hereford.

September 1935 proposal, H.P. 52 wings and tail mated to a wider fuselage with room for
a circular mid-upper turret, tail-boom cross-section enlarged near junction to main fuselage
,largest size torpedoes could be carried internally. - H-P Aircraft since 1907, C.H. Barnes

A few ideas I had for the Hampden:

1:
Completely stripped version for Recce and other work that doesn't require armament.

Delete and fair over the spine and belly turret positions and create a system of pop-in mission specific modules to go in the weapons bay area. The idea would be that, when the aircraft got reassigned, the downtime would be minimised as the module could simply be switched and the aircraft could be on it's way again. A common attachment system would be built into the weapons bay area and all modules would work with it. All variants would keep a glased nose for missions where an extra crew member was needed.

Some module ideas:
Variety of modules with recce camera arrangements
High speed courier and transport module
Target tug module
Combination bomb pannier and gun packet module (Sort of like an earlier Canberra B.I.8 )
Torpedo modules in single or double recessed versions
Fuel module for long range ferrying

2:
Floatplane variant for rescue and recovery work.

Upper gun station could be deleted or converted to a spotter position and the lower station could be replaced with a ramp that could be lowered and used to slide bodies into the refitted weapons bay from the water.

3:
Widen the fuselage so it can have a proper co-pilot or one of the other crew members actually can get to the cockpit and keep flying the machine if the pilot is killed. After that, give the plane back to Bomber Command.

Early Pathfinder variant, with 2 small H2S style " bubbles" on either side of the now enclosed nose. Known as the Handley Page Hamster. :)

Contrary to myth the pilot's compartment is accessible from inside the aircraft and his seat-back was designed to detach.
So, theoretically, if he had time to engage the auto-pilot, the pilot could be pulled out of his seat and his place taken by
another crew member.

Anyhow, the Brit bombers didn't have 'co-pilots'.  ;D

The original Halifax design was basically a widened Hampden although slightly bigger.

Here is a Swiss "Handley-Page Helvetian" bomber-destroyer I made (1/72 scale) from a 1/100-scale FROG Hampden fuselage, with "Alpine" camo. I put Mosquito wings and engines on it (same planform), and a twin-40mm cannon in the nose. The 1/72 Hampden itself is really skinny, and the 1/100 version is even MORE skinny, but.....!

Widen the fusalage and fit a nose turret and a 4-gun BP dorsal turret. Replace the Pegasus engines with Hercules or Centaurus engines.
