MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (KBOI) — An aircraft from Travis Air Force Base had to make an emergency landing in Mountain Home Tuesday after a KC-10 Extender's refueling boom separated from the aircraft.

What does this switch do?

The Navy’s first unmanned aviation unit formally became the Navy’s first UAV squadron during an Oct. 28 “assumption of command” ceremony at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida.

The unit has no aircraft yet, but is slated to begin delivery of their MQ-4C Triton UAVs late in 2017 and begin flight operations. The squadron is currently scheduled for an inaugural deployment to 7th Fleet in 2018.

And this is interesting.

This was taken in Guam in late '93 or early '94, not sure which , when I was in VQ-1. I'm somewhere in one of the eights. This was right before we retired the airframe. Not sure what was done with it afterwards. Some said it was going to the boneyard, others said it was going to the Smithsonian collection.

It's clearly an EP-3, the bobbed tail, the dorsal antenna farm, and the "M&M" under the weapons bay show that. I suspect the "innards" were removed and installed in a new conversion as the USN maintained a fleet of 12 EP-3's, barring occasional losses or other problems, up into the early 2000's when they decided to expand the fleet (I was part of the engineering team on that effort, reconciling the original conversion drawings and 35 years of mods and upgrades into one design package to convert a stock P-3C to an EP-3E).

I never went to William Tell but what I heard from those who did was the Florida heat and humidity was a killer. They started at sunrise and quit around 11 as the heat on the tarmac made it impossible to work. The head/wrist bands (RCAF Blue?) I would guess are safety features to keep sweat off face and hands. Dropping a 135 lb AIM-4D would not go over well with the judges.

Picture label is: China Southern Airlines #A380 (B-6139) collided with a tow truck while taxiing at Los Angeles Airport before departing for Guangzhou, China.

The tow bar is still connected(?) or was the tug pushing the bar to another aircraft?
