Title: Box Stock Rommel's Half Track. Really. :)

It's the reissue of the Monogram 1/24 "Rommel's Rod". Being as it's a show car, not real world armour, I didn't weather it at all, and actually gave it a slight semi-gloss finish. It went together reasonably well, but the decal info was a bit lacking.
I found that the pose I set "Rommel" in made him look like he's saying "What do you mean we're lost and out of gas?"

I sold it to  a customer at the shop where I work. he didn't like the skeletons, they made him feel creeped out. So I kept them, and bought another one to build one day with a crew of 4!

Cool, Al.

I need to do one with the full Mercedes SSK racer triple corrugated exhausts and cycle fenders
routine.

I'd like to do the followup vehicvles, like "Patton's Panzer Pulverizer", using a Cord Convertible with pop-up pearl handled .30 cal MGs. "Monty's Masterpiece of Material Management Motorised Command Post and Tea Room" would likely involve a Rolls Royce body of some kind...

It's a real treat to see one of these built up, and especially in that inimitable Alvis style!

When I was a lad, we all wanted one of these cool half-tracks!

nice model alright !
Cool design - pity it's in the wrong scale for us - thinking of doing a better detailed 35th version with CMK's Mercedes kit & a German halftrack parts.

Love the idea of Patton's & Monty's halftracks :D

Patton had a custom half-track.  ;D

As to Monty, a Roller with Citroen-Kegresse tracks.  ;D

"Wrong scale for us"??
Any scale is welcome here, this is not a military model scales only modelling site.

Ahh... the follys of youth.
Great Flashback, I still have the original release in a box of "when I was a lad" models.

Nice build though.

Perhaps use the track assemblies from the MPC 1/20th Rupp Super Sport Snowmobile:

yep, that's what I've got earmarked for the project. Add on tracks and a large sitting room/patio with a table set for tea, and it's most of the way there.

Long time since I've seen one of these built up: nice one Alvis!  :)

a) I have a four-seat 1/72nd Skyraider in the stash, who's primary purpose in life is to donate it's canopy to something else, so....

b) To avoid the rest of the Skyraider being wasted, I have one of those 1/72nd 6x6 staff cars in the stash, with the intention of nicking the interior to make a pimped, open-topped Skyraider, so....

c) To avoid the staff car being wasted, I have an HO/OO outside privvy in the stash.... ;) ;D

This is the sort of "logic" by which stashes grow.....

Regarding Monty's equivalent vehicle, I'd have thought the recently re-released Airfix Humber would be the ideal starting point, maybe with Bren Carrier tracks? I know it's 1/32nd and any track donor would probalby be 1/35th, but since it's a joke anyway....

OH HELL YES!!!  :-*

Same, I wanted to make a (semi) serious one with all the trappings, just can't find the skeletons ..........

Monty's car is the one that's giving me grief. I'd love to use the Humber, but since Rommel's Rod is 1/24, I'd like to keep them all in that scale. Now, if somebody did a Humber in 1/24...:)
But that's just me, I'm weird about scale sometimes.
I toyed with the idea of making Monty a "Monty's Monster Masher", a Monster Truck variant of the Humber, but then decided that it would be just "off" somehow, and not fitting with his image. Again, I get weird about things sometimes.

don't know of any 1/24th Humbers or US halftracks ???  Know of a few 24th WW2 Jeeps tho - maybe stretch it & add 35th tank suspension (Chafee ??).

Being as they're Show Rods, a 1/24 car would make the base for the model, so a 30s Rolls or anything British from that time frame works. Then the fun bit starts.  :D

So Patton's Cord will have the tracks up front?  ;)

As to track assemblies, as Al sez they'll be show-rods and as such don't require RW, same scale
assemblies, so 1/35th tank suspensions could be used scale-o-rama fashion. Crusader or Valentine
could be used for a Monty machine. Personally I'd go for Valentine units as the Vickers suspension
has that 'busy' look, and my personal choice for Patton's would be the VVSS units off of the M3
Grant/Lee, the ones with return rollers on top.
