Seafire FR.XIX in USMC Korea markings.
The PR19? A high flyer - 'Precursor to the Blackbird' was, I recall, the title of an article that appeared many years ago in Air International, can't recall whether it covered all PR Spits or just the 19.
(…)
A late 50's USAF recce bird in Korea and Japan? Why not. But remember, it's a Spitfire - so treat it with respect. Or else!
;D ;D
Finally, a reason to buy the new-tool 1/72 Griffon Spit!

Inspired by the RF-51Ds of the 45th Tactical Reconnaisance Squadron in Korea:

I can't believe the idea never occurred to anyone at the time, or me until now?
The RAF had to limit the altitude for prxix's in exercises so that vampires and meteors had a chance to intercept. One pilot took a spit 19 to over 50k in the far east.
" He climbed to 50,000 ft (15,240 m) indicated altitude, with a true altitude of 51,550 ft (15,712 m)." Although he lost control after things got too cold, he did recover
in time to land undamaged, so it may have been possible to beat the Mig 15 on the odd recce.
I am very surprised it wasn't tried with just a couple of spits at least, given our much smaller air contribution to the 'police action' in Korea, it seems the type of thing
we would/could have done then.
All that said, superb model, brilliant finish, and what a cracking idea. Top marks mate. :icon_alabanza: :icon_alabanza: :icon_alabanza:

Way back in one of your Care Packages you included a metal sculpting tool. A few years later one of the tips broke off and that is perfect for dipping into paint and lightly tapping on something to create tiny circles like instrument dials - or, in this case, polka dots!

You cannot have too many Spitfires is US markings. ;)
Very nice build Zac.
