Well I do really have some 1/48 scale planes, all of my very favorite aircraft --- I think it might be about 12 to 15 but I can't remember exactly. I found one in my stash which I'm having problems figuring out why I bought it --- an Airfix EE Lightning

Oh yes I have 1/48 kits that contribute parts to 1/72 scale-o-ramas.

@Robert/KitNut617 - discoveries such as you describe happen quite often in my stash :)

Usually the discovery is of a 1/72 scale kit, but as I don't have very many 1/48, the Lightning is baffling me --- I may just move it on at sometime (along with a bunch of 1/144 scale kits, or the occasional 1/200 one)

With two or three engines in the rear.  Given the power of early engines, you might want three, maybe even four.

Hmm, use four and scalorama it to 1/72 as a competitor to the B-45 and XB-46?

Well, that pretty much finishes out their full run of "big, single-engine MiGs and derivatives".  Wonder if they, also, will do a Ye-231 to finish the set?

Isn't the Ye231 just a fixed wing MiG23?

No, it's not.  Different intakes and the presence of lift engines makes a big difference.

OK, I must be thinking of a different aircraft then.

MiG-23-01 (also referred to as E-23, E-23DPD, E-231, MiG-23PD, and Ye-230):

ART MODEL do already produce a 1/72 kit:

Mind you, combining one of these with the intakes from a standard MiG-23 (or vice-versa) could trick some people. >:D

Mind you, I'm very tempted to do one with lift engines removed and canards on the intakes as a developed, less-complex, approach to the requirements.  Canards would, of course, be standard MiG design in planform.
