Title: 1/72 Canadian Spitfire Racer
Post by: The Big Gimper on August 13, 2016, 08:58:27 AM
Okay. I have just challenged myself to build a kit in 48 hours.  It should be 20 to 25 parts.

I'm taking an Airfix PR19 with Academy MK.14 wings and throwing some paint and decals on it.

Not sure what it look like but I will figure that out as I go along.

See you on Sunday night.

Just posted the pictures of the completed kit. Start to finish: 47 Hours and 30 minutes.

The fuselage is the new Airfix PR.19 and the wings are from an Academy FR.14. So 19+14=33/2 = MK 16.5.  I filled in the camera ports, removed the cannons, cannon bulges and filled in the .303 gun ports. There was a 1-2mm gap between the PR.19 fuselage and the FR.14 wings. I filled this in with scrape styrene. I had to build the cooler flaps (lost them). Scrape styrene again. The Academy LG is real pain to install. Hard fight with it but I won with a JLC saw and CA glue.

To get it done in 48 hours I had to use Tamiya spray bomb paint. It is quick drying. One coat of white primer and two coats of red. The canopy frame is thin red decal stripes. I tried an experiment with the exhaust stacks. Put on a coat of Humbrol steel and then right after some Testors rust.  I like result.

Decals are from 6 different sources.

Wow is that ever sharp, Carl!

The shark mouth was an excellent touch and works really well with that red scheme!

Sure looks every inch a winner!
