"Range though would have to be kept I would think, wild fires have a habit of starting nowhere near an airfield" -- absolutely

Okay, now you've got me thinking about mobile catapult systems and arrestor gear for ex-carrier aircraft waterbombers operating from shorter, remote strips  ;D

I remember an article IIRC from Popular Mechanics magazine about a proposed catapult and arresting system for Marine aircraft in Vietnam. The catapult never turned out but now every military runway has portable arrestor gear. Maybe an electric catapult system for modern use? It would take a honkin big generator!

I'm sorry but this brings up a vision of two big trucks and a massive bungee chord. The two trucks drive off and when the bungee is tight enough they let go of the aircraft.

A bit mad even for whif world........ ;D ;D ;D ;D

Right...….

Back to the serious(ish) stuff, a small progress update.

The new water tank is just about complete, all the PSR is done apart from some scratches to buff out, I have added the water release doors, the Life raft chute, and the flare projectors. I also had to file a couple of depressions either side to give the wheels a bit more clearance

by Robomog, on Flickr

The rest of the construction should be pretty much Out of The Box but there could be a few further tweaks if they occur to me.

More as it happens...……….

Thanks for looking

Hi all

Another small update.

All the big bits are stuck together now and the smaller bits prepped. I have successfully produced and tested my own decals so should be able to complete the Gannet fairly soon real world permitting.

I've had to attach rather than embed  a progress picture because Flickr are 'updating' their website, hopefully they will have got their act together by the time I have finished this kit.

The Gannet is currently in the paint shop so the next post should be the finished article

Thanks for looking.........

That's coming along splendidly and the idea of a Gannet fire-bomber delights me to no end!

Thanks for a great update, Mog!

Thanks guys

Sorry this isn't the final post

Thought I was going to get this one out on time but the transparencies have been complete B@5t@r*5!  Its going to take a bit of work to make them passable.

Fortunately I've now got a bit more time courtesy of Mr jcf.

Shock Horror guys I've finished this one on time !

Its the first time i've had a go at producing my own decals and they have come out OK, i will do a separate piece on those later.

Shoutout to Kitnut617 for unknowingly being the catalyst for giving me its tanker number and the aviation joke.

Naturally all the serials are spurious.

so without further ado i present the Fairey Gannet waterbomber.

I have to  love that logo and motto on the tail; most appropriate for the role.

That came out great! The decal is a nice touch, too. I can imagine a smaller fire spotter plane called the "Après moi, le déluge"

Like that Idea, a double play on the same funny,  envisioning a Cessna 337 or Piper Cub spotter.

Hmmmmm  food for thought ............  ;)

Thanks again
