Canadian Leopard C2 MEXAS
« on: December 06, 2022, 06:49:13 PM »
I've been building Leo 1 again for a long time. The 2 on the left have been finished for a few years. In the summer I started with Dozer. It's finished now. The Mexas from Meng.

Now comes the one with the "thermal cover". Base is Hobbyboss.

Check on Meng Mexas:

Nice collection of Mexas kits. The resin thermal cover looks good.

Hello,

The cover didn't fit so well on Hobbyboss front

I could have saved myself the work with scratching and copy in resin in 2015.

now ready:

Nice suite of tanks. Really nice work with the mods on all those Leopards.
Co-incidentily, I have just finished an Aussie Leopard 1A4 build, but using more ancient tamiya offering.

Indeed! Although its almost a shame to paint 'Mexas No 5'. With all that gleaming brass, it looks like jewelry   :-*

With your new direction, you might be needing a different 'handle' Didi. Perhaps Leopard Lad  :D

Lovely work as always, Didi

 ;D

Reportedly, the Canadian Army still has 82 Leopard 2 MBTs - 112 if you're counting support vehicles. I'm not sure whether that includes the 4 2A6s donated to Ukraine.

The real question is: How many of those Canadian Leo 2s are in good nick ... or even running?

Hello friends, hello Kerick

Only 2 get individual tracks. I bought these about 20 years ago. They're from HKCW. I broke it a bit. The other two get tracks from Italeri.

Follow me on this.

The Canadians sent the Mexas to Afghanistan in 2006.

https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/dnd-mdn/army/lineofsight/articleimages/2021/10/D12-11-10-4E-p5-25.pdf

This story takes place in 2007, the infantry grunt narrator identifed the armor unit as 1) British and 2) equipped with Challengers but since the British didn't send Challengers to Afghanistan and the Mexas has the L7 (as mentioned in the story) I think we know who the real culprits were.  ;)

Without going through it again (No, I don't like the Venga Boys, either) they seemed to go by the callsign "Leopard"/"Leopard 2", which may also be a bit of a hint as to what popped around the corner. ;)

Great to see your Canadian Leo 2s again. I especially love your Leopard 2 A6M CAN build complete with 'Roll Out' placards  :-*

... conversion based on the ESCI Piranhas, 30 years ago. The Husky is the Trumpeter kit ...

I had no idea that you had modelled the AVGPs! And the 'prototypes' to boot ... too cool  8)

... "what if", Canada was once interested in this ...

Another blast-from-the-past! Perhaps that 'Marten' was a "what if" but also very much a 'should-have-been'
