Time to Digitus Extractus and get onboard this.
Now everything is getting cancelled around me, plus I am now mostly retired (who hit me with procrastination stick when that happened ??)
I really have no excuses not to support this venerable site of modelling niceness.
Plus Sci Fi is right in my zone
One now wonders, what one can do with this
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_1.JPG)
It was a pickup at a kit sale somewhere. Why ?? NFI !!!! Must have had something in mind at the time.
Lets see what evolves.
-
Interesting...can't wait to see where this goes.
-
Always thought the Viggen had a slightly sci-fi look to start with. Be interesting to see where you take this, BT.
-
Welcome aboard!!
-
Replace the jet engine with a rocket and maybe do it as something similar to this:

Clicked for the thread title ;D ;D ;D , stayed for the Viggen! :-* :-* :-*
-
Well a burst of activity.
Firstly the guy who previously owned this kit was seriously looking at updating it
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_2.JPG)
These stores are magnificent and in 1/48 as well, probably planned to be masters for resin casting. Really really good work.
What I am doing to his Viggen though, well...... we shall see
This is where I am heading at the moment
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_3.JPG)
Opened out the fuselage to be a different shape changed direction and massacred a couple of 1/350 Los Angeles Class Boomers.
Don't fret, they were both in a box, started and picked up at a Salvo's shop so no damage to any good plastic.
Although the Alfa Class Soviet subs are now also calling out somewhat.
-
That's an interesting start - good eye matching the compound curves on the subs with the Viggen fuselage.
-
Work is proceeding apace.
Of course my minds eye is seeing stuff, my skills probably cannot fulfill, but the vision is proceeding
Bits box is being raided for goodies and this is the underside at the moment
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_4.JPG)
Whipped out some Shipping containers on the 3D printer and that is where the Free Trader idea came from.
I am now heading toward a Traveller (Sci Fi RPG from last century) style ship, something like a 400/500 ton Free Trader. This might make 1/144 scale maybe, I will have to scale it out a bit more and maybe make a bunch of smaller containers.
-
Off to a good start. Really liking those cargo containers.
-
Watching. Intrigued. Liking.
-
Mayday...mayday...
Great source of inspiration! There is a lot of good stuff to be modeled in the Traveller universe.
-
oh yeah!!
-
wait, what? going to watch this!
-
I am a failure :icon_sueno:
I wanted to just build this, quick knock together job, but sadly due to lack of will power it will now have to have lights.
Sorry about that ;)
To that end work on the forward sections using Surface Mount Diodes for the Control Deck and some random Fibre optics
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_7.JPG)
I have now converted to using these excellent Electronics cable headers as connection points. It all then becomes very modular plugging stuff in using some (Carefully, very carefully) separated Male pin headers soldered to each lead, which is just old type computer ribbon cable stripped out.
It. Is. Alive !!!
The blue are the donks (engines in other words) and some Breathing LED's as Beacons, plus the fibre option in the forward section.
-
Awesome!
I want to be able to add lights to projects, but I don't have the first clue where to start...
-
Thatīs a great project with some serious lighting work! :)
-
... but sadly due to lack of will power it will now have to have lights...
;D ;D ;D We all have our own demons to wrestle with!
Looking forward to the lightshow
-
Tinkered enough methinks... wings on. Wings off.
Wings on won.

About to hit the paintshop for a goof coat of primer, so cover me.. I am going in !
-
I'll be waiting to see what a "goof coat" looks like. ;)
-
That is looking quite nice. What are your final plans for painting?
-
Under primer
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_12.JPG)
And this is why I call it a goof coat
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_13.JPG)
There are more.
-
Every intergalactic trade ship has to have some hull blemishes, or I wouldn't trust them to haul my cargo through the Kessel Run.
-
Blemishes or not, she looks good under primer, BT!

Concur, lot of travel and exposure to stuff. Even intragalactic travel has its scrapes and bumps.
-
I often primer two or three times before I find and fix all my goofs. Looking good! I think it ought to have bigger wings, but I'm probably too influenced by the standard 400 ton Far Trader design. ;)
-
Like the wings on, looking good even with just the "goof coat" on

Ok, paintshop time
Stage 1. I wanted some black, so also added some preshade, even though I still don't think it does anything
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_14.JPG)
Stage 2. Blue !!!
Stage 3. Blue with more Bluey Blue
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_16.JPG)
Stage 4. Decals
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/Sci%20Fi/scifi_17.JPG)
Around the final bend, heading into the straight.

Visionary creative from those parts to come together as an Independant Free Trader. And paint scheme is great however you got inspiration.

Concur with my esteemed colleague. A fantastic sci-fi build and I like the colors!

Soooooo cool :icon_jedi:

Great and the color rocks.

Calling it done
This is what we ended up with

Cargo Containers - 3D printed, so not fantastic, but good enough for Government.... errrr BTS work.

Close up of some damage (Actually caused by me splitting the bit of Train Cab I used here.)

Lights !!
bit out of focus... grrrrrr !

Engines. Pretty happy with the result here. Getting a nice subdued glow is hard, but diffused with some Foam and the main arrays is actually part of a Flash bulb unit from the dim dark
ages when Cameras used to have to use external flashes

Yes done and done well. Lights way they are with exactly right "used" weathering is cool. 8)
-
Looks good, BT! 8)
-
Well done with every facet from design to execution and final details!

-
Magnificent !, the lights finish it off a treat.

I came to this party late and worked backwards. First thing I thought of when I saw the final product was "TRAVELER".
