British Columbia Army Tyee Mk. I MBT
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:40:42 AM »
Here's a few photos of another project I have going... finally underway, a British Columbia Army Tyee Mk. I.

I used the hull from an Airfix Chieftain and the turret from a RoG Challenger, and modified the hull with some other parts from the Challenger. There's still a goodly bit left to do, but it's starting to look how I want! :)

Thanks for the compliments!

Things you realise only after you post photos: I put the end cap on the barrel on backwards!

I'm trying to decide now how to proceed; aside from some minor stuff there's still the treads and the skirting to apply (for the skirting I'll be using a mashup of the Chieftain and Challenger skirts), and of course painting. I'm wondering if I should paint everything now with the skirts separate, and then attach the treads and the skirting after all the painting is done, or finish the assembly, tracks and skirts and everything, and then paint it, including painting the treads black(ish) again...

Definately paint everything before final assembly IMHO. You can always touch up any visible glue from putting the skirts on after paint.

I didn't even notice that laser sensor  ;D  I'm with Weaver on the paint first, assemble, then touch-up approach.

Wow you're like a factory lately, Ms Litvyak! Nice work on this so far and you can count me among those who didn't notice anything amiss.

I've got to agree with the others about painting as much as you can prior to assembly. At least that's what works for me.
