UNECF BJ2022 4x4 Utility Vehicle
« on: April 01, 2013, 05:09:11 AM »
In the late 2010s, Extraterrestrials visited the Earth. As expected, there was great excitement, concern and all the irrational and religious reactions we've come to expect from the movies.

The United Nations - in a surprising show of global unity - formed the UNECF. They never quite explained what the abbreviation meant; most assumed it meant "United Nations Extraterrestrial Communications Federation" Or "United Nations Extraterrestrial Contact in Friendship".

It didn't take long to realize that the ETs were neither hostile nor friendly. It took longer to finally admit that they were just fracking annoying. They weren't here to eat or conquer us. Nor where they here as great benevolent beings who were going to give us new technologies and help us solve the Earth's problems.

The ETs were just here; they would appear in cities at random, ignore most attempts to contact them and would often take over all of the Earth's telecommunications systems to blather about uninteresting and unimportant observations that they had made. One year - 10 minutes after the start of the Superbowl - they interrupted the programming for eight hours because they found the subject uninteresting. Instead, the showed 8 hours of colors, dirt, clouds, water droplets, cows farting and other random images and sounds. Eight hours. During the World Soccer Cup, they played 16 hours of this:

Yeah, things got tense.

Even more annoying, the aliens had easily neutralized (without causing loss of life) all of the Earth's military forces. No country had been able to attack them with any success. The Chinese even tried to nuke them, but the bombs just ended up splatting on the desert floor. The ETs quickly mopped up the contamination and returned the bomb debris to the Chinese.

The only group that seem to have any sort of effect on controlling or moderating the ETs was the UNECF. By now, most people assumed (and hoped) that they stood for the "United Nations Extraterrestrial Containment Force". Somehow, they had been able to keep them off the airwaves and had reduced their interactions with the human population.

Since most of the early contacts had been in China (Gurbantünggüt Desert - picked because the ETs said it was the furthest point from any coastline) the Chinese Government obtained a lucrative contract to supply many of the UNECF's vehicles. One of the more common was the BJ2022 4x4 Utility Vehicle, made by Beijing Benz.

This is the HobbyBoss 1/35 BJ2022JC Yongshi SUV 1.5t. It's a very well designed model and goes together quickly, except for the doors and windows. Here it is in UN White, after a dusty desert trip:

The figure is a New World's Miniature "Rambo" PMC. It's mostly finished. I printed the sunglasses on paper and painted it with some gloss black paint. It still needs some shading on the pants and weapon. I'm working on the ETs next.

Sorry, but  on the examples given so far, I'm solidly on the side of the ETs......  ;)

Excellent work and details on the figure and vehicle so far.  Looking forward to seeing what your alien will look like :)

Thanks for the comments! The weathering covers up a multitude of sins. I used Vallejo white primer with mixed results. The Vallejo primers are latex based (unlike their regular acrylic paints). The white primer seemed to go on OK, but I had it peel off in a couple of spots. This model almost ended up in the boneyard pile because of that.
The resin figure is really well molded. It's a shame that New World Miniatures has gone out of business. The only weak part is the gun. The figure is painted with regular Vallejo paints. I just noticed that I forgot to attach his handgun. What well dressed mercenary goes out without his gun?
