Hi there,
As I mentioned in the "Back Bar" subforum ( http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2613.0 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2613.0) ), I'm currently working on a combination between the M247 Sgt. York turret and the T-72 hull.
The story is, that a US ally bought the 50 turrets of the M247 Sgt. York, when the project was cancelled in the mid-1980'ies. This "ally" later sold the turrets on to Syria, which combined the M247 turrets with surplus T-72 hulls. This vehicle became known as the T-72 Bar' Aesifa (Lightning Storm).
I'm thinking about making a Bar' Aesifa that was captured by FSA rebels and now used in both the surface to air and the surface to surface role.
I've got some very good suggestions from other members on this forum - but to keep things simple, I have kept the M247 turret without too many modifications.
Here is my progress so far...
The last photo is only a "mock-up", to give you an idea on how the finished project will look like. I had a spare T-72 hull from a model I buildt many moons ago, lying around.

Off to a great start.

Sweet! I like the little Soviet touches to the turret as well.

Fine by us. We welcome and appreciate all forms of modelling. :)

Very nice stuff! I especially liked the Afghan shop. Will that become part of a Helmand diorama some day?
-
Great stuff all around love the back story outline on the T-72

I was actually a little surprised how well the combination of the M247 turret and T72 hull looked together, when I did the "mock-up" seen above.
As for the project - I'm actually finished putting the parts together. Now I just need some time to get it painted. Maybe next weekend... I hope...
This is the first model I have finished since April 2009!!!
Best regards,
Bjoern

Really Like the idea! I am planning (when I get a clear desk) of doing a M1/M247 bash! That looks really neat!
-
Very nice work Bjoern! :)
-
Now primed and ready for some paint!

Is that an IR lightsource above your gun tubes or will that be a muzzle velocity measurement radar?
Looking very good on that T-72 hull, much better than I could have imagined.
-
Ready to see it all painted up :)

Jeffry,
It will be a IR lightsource. I will imangine that this vehicle could be used on both surface to air and surface to surface targets.

I finally managed to get some paint on it! I'm still working on the model... I have begun some light weathering.

Looking good Bjoern! Your Bar' Aesifa would also be a fearsome 'streetfighter'. I'm glad that this is just a whif! :o

Woh! :-*

Oh yeah, the paint makes all the difference! Great stuff!

That camo color combo works so well :-*
Another one of those I would not have thought it camo schemes. Cool build in all ways 8)

Very attractive! makes a fair amount of sense, too - I've read the Syrians used the ZSU - 57 to good
effect.
-
Yowsa that's hot!
Well done!

Thanks for all your comments! Much appreciated.
Now I need to paint the barrels, road wheels and continue the weathering.

Hi Bjoern,
you are a very talented modeller. I like your models, both real world and what if.

Great hybrid - the two halves match up really well and the paint job is excellent. A real feel of authenticity about it too - good job! :)
