Yes. Probably Arizona. The Spitfire belongs to the Commemorative Air Force.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

14 December 1924. A Martin MO-1 (shoulder-wing cantilever monoplane with a slab-sided fuselage) was launched using an explosive-driven catapult fitted to a turret on USS Mississippi, requiring less distance for the take-off.

Very nice pic! Interesting paint scheme, lighter on top and dark on the sides.

Here's another shot of the same aircraft sporting the same scheme:

It looks to me to be a work in progress and possibly the result of maintenance.

Is that a case of skin panels coming from another aircraft being used as spare parts donor ?

I wouldn't think so.  Perhaps work done on said panels though and paintwork not completed to make it all look 'clean'.  A bit of further research on this exact tail number might enlighten us...

A two tone grey finish on a CP-140 would be interesting.

The attractive Armstrong Whitworth 55 Apollo was an early post-war British airliner project.

Designed to a specification laid down by the Brabazon Committee, it did not enter production. The Vickers Viscount took on the role and proved to be a very successful aircraft indeed.

Replace the wing with one with embedded engines like the Comet.

You better keep it under lock and key as the RCAF still has requirements for some two seaters and this air frame looks to be in really good shape so ......  :icon_ninja:

Former RAF F.8 VH-MBX at the Temora Aviation Museum with Royal Australian Air Force markings as 'A77-851'. Ownership was transferred to the RAAF in July 2019 and it is operated by the Air Force Heritage Squadron (Temora Historic Flight).

Oooo, shiny  8)

... It looks to me to be a work in progress and possibly the result of maintenance.

The overpainted tailfin was about this aircraft's post-AIMP shift from 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron (19 Wing Comox) to 405 LRPS (14 Wing Greenwood) So, first the 407 Winged Trident was overpainted and then, after a gap, 405's Pathfinder Eagle was applied.

As you say, plenty of evidence of repainted panels and hatches, etc. My puzzle is: Why that great swath of darker paint around the 'RCAF+ARC' markings?

A side query for anyone in the know: Since DND adopted US FS595 c.1989 (when the Canadian Standard book stopped being produced), why do we still see 1-GP-12c colours being listed for RCAF aircraft? Just wonderin'.
