Before the MiG 15 came to fame battling Messerschmitts over the Danube River, the MiG 14 was fighting pirates in the Great Mongolian Sea.

Photo of what I'm starting with. Basic model is an old Airfix bagged MiG 15.

Hmmm, interesting. MiG-15 with P-51 wings and tail?
-
Another Ed masterpiece! The Airfix Mig-15 is a good start. It bears about as much resemblance to a real Mig-15 as the Aurora "Mig 19" (https://fantastic-plastic.com/AuroraMIG-19Page.htm) does to the Mig-19.

Thatz a concept. Sure Russians would have access to some P-51s by 1946 to copy its great wings. Mig-14 as a precursor to Mig-15.
Built bright green plastic Aurora "Mig-19" back in the day.

Wish I could upvote this comment.
A straight, laminar flow wing & tail feathers on a MiG is one heckuva concept!

Yes, I'm still around and even found some modeling time the last few days. For those who recognized the Mustang wings, you are correct. However, they are not the same scale as the Mig. They are from a snap together toy that is about 20% larger than 1/72. But they fit the Mig fuselage perfectly.
Here is the Mig as of today. Major assembly finished and first layer of putty in place and ready to start sanding.

Looking good
-
I like the look of that layout and bonus points for going with a T tail!

Looks like the start of a fearsome pirate hunter for the defense of the Motherland.
-
Great idea!
-
Looks not unlike a T-tail FJ1 Fury, but actually a bit prettier.

Just about done with PSR stage. Here it is with a coat of primer.

Bet Russians copied much of FJ-1 then added Miggy touches with eye toward Mig-15.

Purely from the real aerodynamics standpoint, the intersection of the wing and fuselage would not be that sharp or concave. It causes significant interference drag, especially at speed where compressibility and transonic flow are expected. That interface really needs a fillet to smooth out the airflow in that corner.
However, as Faithful Patsy once said, "It's only a model." ;D

Sometimes, I'm too lazy or in a hurry to worry about all the minor aerodynamic details.

Developed by MiG to use the newly available RR Nene engine, the Mig 14 was a significant improvement over the early Mig 9 and was put into production. Only about 500 units were produced before the new swept wing Mig 15 was ready for production. It was roughly in the same class, performance, and mission as the early USAF F-84 and the French Dassault Ouragon.

The aircraft shown was flown by the Mongolian AF and used against pirates on the Great Mongolian Sea during the late 1940's.

Lovely Ed :-* :-* :-*
I like the way you used the same type of weapon load as I did on my Bronco
-
Looks fantastic, Ed! The largest body of water in Mongolia is Uvs Lake (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uvs_Lake) at around 50 x 50 miles, so the Fathead would have had an easy time hunting pirates.

I guess WHIFF world has some different geography.

Fine example of everything Mig-14 was or could or should have been.
-
Wow did that ever finish up a treat!
Great stuff, Ed!

Beautiful paintjob!
And I always maintain that there is no aircraft which looks worse with a T-Tail.
-
Love that paint scheme.
-
Came together really nicely

This one also reminds me a bit of the Gloster CXP 1001:

I'll have to get my kit built, I dug it out earlier in the year for the Allied '46 GB but didn't have time to make it.
