Title: He111 ideas and inspiration
Post by: GTX_Admin on December 30, 2011, 11:51:07 AM
Hi folks,

A thread for your He111 ideas and inspiration.

Here's one to start you off:

A float plane to operate from Fjords or the Med' perhaps?  Probably needs bigger floats though.

Maybe in the '60s, the Spanish decide to re-engine their CASA 2.111Bs with turboprops to create CASA 2.111Ts:

In 1941, the Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor was joined in the anti-shipping role by the He-211 "Albatros":

Later on some were fitted with radar and anti-shipping missiles:

And just for comparison - a standard He-111H-6:

Fabulous upon Fabulous variants.  AWACS for vectoring fighters to those nasty Yankee bombers.  Last five or so are super inspiring for kind of bashing I like to do.
Think Boeing or Lockheed might use your concepts ???

Title: He-211 Albatros
Post by: sequoiaranger on January 01, 2012, 01:34:11 AM
>In 1941, the Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor was joined in the anti-shipping role by the He-211 "Albatros":<

Possibly refering to my "He-211 Albatros" from way back??

This beast was made from TWO He-111Z models to get the straight wing/engine sections, an Airmodel vac-formed early nose and wingtips, and an Airfix top turret. She carries two torpedoes. *MY* story goes that a kette of Albatros' met the wounded Bismarck way out at sea, drove off the Ark Royal's Swordfish (acting as long-range fighters), and put torpedoes into KGV and Rodney, allowing the Biz to escape destruction and return to Brest.

I have a plan to "Phoenix" this model, using a Lindberg (1/64 approx) He-111 for a larger and longer fuselage than the "standard" He-111. I may decline the re-build, as this Albatros is one of my all-time favorite models (and that of my "fans").

The mind boggles...

My personal favorites are the night fighter (looks so natural!) and the swing-wing variant.

May I make a suggestion? A biplane He 111... Engines would be halfway between the two wings, the tail would be a twin-fin one, and the nose would be extended further forward. I have only managed to do a top view so far, side and especially front views are awfully difficult to do!!

Title: Biplane He111---DeHavilland "Dragon Rapide" Style?
Post by: sequoiaranger on January 04, 2012, 02:11:06 AM
I like the idea of a He-111 biplane. Maybe along the lines of the DH Dragon Rapide shown here?

Most likely the thick and broad wings would have been thinned. Despite biplane bombers like the Handley-Page Heyford, trying to lift heavy weight with biplanes is very hard on the plane not securely fastened to the fuselage. The much-larger Heyford could only lift some 4,000 pounds max. The monoplane He-111 could lift more than that.

A biplane is one idea I certainly hadn't considered...great one!
Title: He-121
Post by: sequoiaranger on February 09, 2012, 12:46:14 AM
Here is another He-111 derivative. It's the ancient Faller 1/100 He-111, made into a fictional 1/72 high-altitude, jetstream-riding fighter (ex-German He-121) for Japan, with ultra-long wings, X-16 turbocharged engine (cooling and piping a la Fw-190 V18), and pressure cockpit (a turned-around top-gunner's perspex). Kinda reminds me of the He-119 with the big fan up front.

Front view (no extra charge for "hand" in the picture):

No pic, but I also took a 1/144 He-111 and made a 1/72 single-engined "fighter trainer" out of it. Argus engine, open cockpit, "trousered" undercarriage (where the engine nacelles went) with a single gun in each "trouser". I do love the look/shape of the He-111!

Also diggin' the CASA 2.111 with turboprops. (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m309/ChernayaAkula/Emoticons/70.gif) Just the thing for an African or South American storyline.
Semi-related: Thought about a Ju 88 with the RR Darts form a Fokker Friendship a couple of weeks ago. Flown by mercs for an African storyline (much like the Biafran Invaders). Maybe donated/sold French-built ones?

Random thought:  Do a post war (or even during war) unarmed He-111H-22 but with the standard V-1 replaced with a manned Fieseler Fi 103 Reichenberg IV.  This could be in something like a bright red scheme as a testbed or even speed record bird.  I'm thinking of something akin to a German B-29/X-1 combo.

I like this one - doable too, since Roden make various kits of the normal-nosed -A, -B, -C and -E versions. Their -B is in Spanish Nationalist colours, so you might imagine them trying to get more performance out hte airframe whilst on the wrong side of a post-war embargo on more advanced types...

from what I hear those early He-111s of Roden's have appalling fit :( so whiffing to another aircraft entirely is probably best.

Stretch the existing wings with a constant chord and airfoil section on each side mounting another engine (yielding a 4-engined heavy bomber)?  Or if you want a really heavy bomber, the middle wing of a He111Z on each side with the outboard wing, outboard of the engines, of a standard He111.

I am also a bit into He111 thinking, if a kit comes crossing my way maybe , but just a question:
are the early version of the Glas nose made symetric and not like the later versions ?

They seem to have missed the one firing forward from the belly gunner's bulge/pod/blister.

The forward glazing of the He 111 V7 and V8 - prototypes for the He 111P - were noticeably different from the glazing on production models. But, AFAIK, the asymmetry existed from the outset.

In the late 1930's the Irish Air Corps looked at all the twin-engined German planes as they wanted an MP plane which could also act as a troop transport.
They ended up with the Anson 1 but I always thought a He-111 would have been a more logical choice.

The nose cannon in Bertram's plane looks larger-than-2cm. When I went looking for documentation, I found this from a gaming video.

An Irish He111 could prove an interesting build

In the trailer for the most recent Indiana Jones movie, there appears to be a twin-tailed He 111. I did not notice the second gun blister atop the fuselage the first time...

Supposedly taken recently somewhere in Russia (click to see bigger versions):

It's a mockup for a Russian movie (https://www.airliners.net/photo/Germany-Air-Force/Heinkel-He-111H-22-mock-up/6224691). Pretty good 1:1 model, though.

What if a liner derived from CASA C.2111?

Looks buildable for someone up to doing the top section transplant and PSR.
