Title: Academy 1\400 Titanic Centenary Edition 14202
Post by: kpnuts on March 10, 2014, 12:37:26 AM
hi all thought i would post some pics of my Titanic build so far.
I decided to light her up so have drilled all the port holes out all 849 of them and cut some of the decks away to allow the light to shine up through the decks.
i have lined the inside with foil to reflect the light up through the decks better (which of course meant clearing out those port holes again).

so thats her up to date what do ya think

this shows one of the decks with holes cut in it to let the light through

i made a little jig for bending the PE seats from one of the plastic seats i cut out to put the wooden decking on(I perhaps should explain the centenary edition comes with wooden veneers for the decking and lots of PE so in order to put the veneers on you need to remove the moulded seats)also i did not use the seats which come with the kit as they are not to scale.

if you're going to do it as Clive Palmer's "Titanic II" you'll have to plaster the hull with Red Bull advertising stickers .... >:D

Different you've done some good work, didn't know there was a 1/400 scale "T", although I should've guessed as you can get it in every other scale imaginable!

This is truly outstanding !!!   Soooo, are you going with a mini speaker and have the band playing as it cruise thru the night ? Tongue in cheek ,yes, but it is doable and would be a big surprise to the viwers.

That's a rather good idea and it's not to late to do it I may very well do that as you say it would be a surprise.

Hi all sorry its been such a long time since my last post but i sort of lost interest in her for a while for several reasons, 1 the mast got bent again also the pe seats at the stern got bent up as did the railing running around the raised observation area at the back (came home from work to find her on the floor upside down, got there from the back of a unit up against the wall. but no one touched it, it just moved 18" across the unit and on the floor on its own) 2, never used pe before and finding it really hard it is so small 3, and the main reason the pe windows i got from Toms Model Works does not include all the windows, the ones i have done so far (which the kit included) wont even be seen once i put the sides on, the ones that are missing are all on the top decks so could be seen(see pic)
as you can see the tall windows with the arches at the top are not present in the pe kit.
Still all that aside i have decided to build and paint what i have got so if there are no pe windows for the part i will just paint the plastic parts ( its a good job i didnt cut the plastic windows out before i checked the pe which is what i have been doing, i would have been right up the creek without a paddle then).
so here is a pic of the plastic windows painted, i dont think it notices that bad actually.

I think it looks great and it cheers me to hear you're back to work on this one!

It's inspiring personally since I've got about four half-starts taking up space.

Thanks for the update and you've got me looking forward to more!

Thanks for all your kind comments, unfortunately last night's work on her ended badly I tried straightening the front mast again as it had started to bend again and snapped it off, so now I will have to try and mend that, what I am most annoyed about is the setback in time it will cost me she was coming along so well too.

Bad luck on that fail, but it's all part of this hobby of ours  :o
You could always try some brass rod of the correct (or closest) diameter in the place of the damaged plastic mast. Just drill out a mounting hole for the new brass piece and use some super glue gel to fix it in place.  :)

Hi all I decided to try to fix the mast, i tried a piece of copper wire but it was the same thickness all the way up and did not look at all right so i hit on the idea of the end of an old paintbrush.

Hi all, sorry its been a while but every time I touch this model something goes wrong, It's lucky it's not been thrown at the wall or been used for target practice, don't get me wrong it's not the k, it went together perfect all fits great it just seem not to want to be built. after the last post I tripped over the step into my model room and emptied a cup of tea over it.
Well anyway I've glued the decks to the hull all there is to do now is the rest of those blooming seats some rigging and some rails round some of the decks,oh and the lifeboat hoists.

Yep, gotta have those deck chairs for watching the icebergs slide by ... & the lifeboats for the one that doesn't!

Lovely build & lighting. :)
