most of you probably have seen this picture, because it is quite widespread and famous,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Ranch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Ranch)

and popular enough to be featured in the movie « Cars » :

It had many versions across the years, begin repainted by passers-by :

and it also had many « cover versions » in the sense that it inspired similar alignments of things other than Cadillacs, e.g. trailers or VWs.

So it could be a good inspiration source for modeling, especially Whifs, with a potential for beautiful dioramas.
I can think of :

- an accurate model of the initial condition, with models of each of the Cadillacs (if they are available)

- other cars : there were variants with
   — VW Beetle / Bug,
   — VW Golf,
   — trailers,
   — Mini (the new kind)
we could imagine others (I have one in mind with Austin Mini Coopers)

- tanks

- aircraft

- trains

- boats

- what else?

Another source of variation is to consider other forms of alignments or accumulations :
examplea are :

- CarHenge, the cars replica of Stonehenge :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carhenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carhenge)

- the Spindle sculpture :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spindle_%28sculpture%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spindle_%28sculpture%29)

what do you think? inspired?  ;)

Some one did show a diorama at the Fayetteville, NC IPMS show way back in 1987 or 1988 that used a Jolly Green Giant figure tossing 1:72nd scale F-16s as lawn darts.  The JGG was around two or three feet in height and was originally some kind of advertising tool for the product line that some how ended up in the possession of a local modeler who put it to use in a funny little diorama.  The height of the JGG figure really did make the F-16s look like lawn darts.

a first look at the Mini Ranch :
take five of these Mini's (actually, to my astonishent, not quite exactly Austin/Leyland Minis, but rather Honda N360 approximations, with a flatter backside) at 1/20 from Aoshima :

and cut them into pieces (two each : one back, one front).

The backs, with a bent, are lined like this (with appropriate colors, to my taste at least) :

The fronts can make for a nice alignment too :

The next step is to fix them on a support : I am thinking of oil on canvas, a neutral grey, so that all colors come out well.

good idea  :D .... at the price of Aoshima kits I'd have thought someone else's Cadillac kits would be cheaper to cut up.

I wonder if this is the same Mini kit my brother bought back in the 1970s ? He also got the similar-looking Honda kit.

I've collected a number of photos of heavily modified Minis over the years.

These kits were quite cheap actually

the modified Mini looks great! some time ago I saw a shortened one, a bit like this :

It feels like trying to make one, but I have to find new cheap kits then ...

here is a final version where I glued them on a stretched canvas, 20x100 cm, and added a grey background (so that colors come out best) : it is shown here in front of a white background

as noticed by eagle-eyed Tophe, I posted this in an aerospace group, whereas it belong to rolling/walking, i.e. "land" like here :

thanks all for your appreciation ;-)

 I stumbled upon these :
(I didn't remember to have seen them anywhere)

here we go again, I used this one crossed  with a 1/76 M16 halftrack (Revell, ex-Matchbox, with diorama) like this :

And of course I did it both ways : the halftrack Oryctes Nasicornis :

on the diorama (itself also red-yellow-blue-ed) :

and the legged M16 :
