Hi folks,
A thread dedicated to your Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 ideas and inspiration.
To start off, how about a crude single engined MiG-29?

Regards,

The Super Fulcrum was to the Fulcrum what the Super Hornet was to the Hornet (conventional MiG included for comparison):
And although produced, the single seat version was no where near as useful or as popular:

Certainly looks like a natural evolution of the type.

And here's the head-on view of that!

Basically the two intakes drawn together. The intake area is somewhere between a single and both normal inlets, to allow for increased need for air for the more powerful engine.
EDIT: Regarding the engine:
How about a D30F-6 from a MiG-31 Foxhound? 93 kN dry and 153 kN reheated vs. 100 kN dry and 162 kN reheated from two RD-33s in the normal MiG-29

Could there be a side view of it?
-
^ Unless Greg did one, there isn't. I didn't do one as I though it wouldn't be all that much different in the side view.

It's alright, it is not that important.

Allow me to present here the Mikoyan MiG-29RV (NATO: "Fulcrum-Q"). The text of the advertisement is supposed to read: "It is our greatest asset for the future, and yet none of our pilots can fly it" but I'm told I made a few Russian mistakes...

Puts thinking cap on, looks at Academy kit in the basement, and thinks misshapen model kits are a great from-the-factory base for versions which never were..... ;D

I remember seeing a "HIMAT" Mig-29 at the old site, But I can't find it anywhere. East german markings... any help out there?
-
Ogival main wings similar in planform to the Su-27 prototype. Wasn't that called the T-10 or something? "Prototype'' styled remaining flying surfaces.
Central American/South American jungle camouflage.
Red/White checkerboard tail, red spine RAF (Whichever squadron it was that flew the Lightning in those markings)

Correct - T-10:

Would look interesting on the MiG-29

One of the long term builds on my top shelf is a RAF Mig-29... The idea was what if instead of a special relationship with america during WW2 a relationship had developed with russia... Fast forward a few years and the Tornado ADV never happened....
I got as far as the cockpit and other builds got in the way...

Hi kitnut, your idea is just wonderful! :)

Was the MiG-29 ever used as a bomb truck?
-
Was the MiG-29 ever used as a bomb truck?
Yes it was, yes it can carry bombs and other ordnance. The MiG-29 replaced the MiG-23 and MiG-27 in addition to the Su-17/22/ Fitter. The aircraft is capable of carrying variety of air to ground munitions/stores to include nuclear free fall bombs, rockets, and precision guided air to surface weapons. These weapons use stores pylons that are different in shape from those used for air to air weapons.
-
It also depends upon how you define 'bomb truck' since often ground attack is carried out using missiles rather then conventional bombs.
-
Essentially the equivalent of the F-16 is what I'm enquiring about but the above is enough to validate the concept.
Thanks.

One of these days, I want to do a MiG-29KUB:

One word comprehensive review of the Great Wall Hobby MiG-29 9-13: Jawdrop.
OK, that being put forth one look through of the kit made it pretty clear I'd like to build it up clean save for a centerline pod. Methinks a combination fuel/recce pod would serve well enough.
(Yes, there is another kit in Ye Olde Stash awaiting its stores.)

Polish MiG-29 carrying a pair of RBS-15's

Different...I like.
-
Why thank-you.
Hoping to source the missiles out of the KH Gripen and hang them beneath the GWH kit.
-
Maybe have the MiG-29s have a full makeover re avionics etc as well?
-
Interesting tail markings:

how about this aircraft with red roo roundels for a communist Australia ?
-
Cool.
Alternatively, what if Russia and Australia did a deal whereby Russia paid for some of its debt/beef/wheat imports using MiGs etc (just as they did/tried with other areas). Maybe even have the MiG-29s as a dedicated aggressor unit?

That makes me wonder what kind of western re-engining you could do on a Fulcrum.
F-414.....EJ200......M88?
-
Well, all are physically smaller than the RD-33 so could (with some fancy engineering) be fitted to a MiG-29.
-
Simply an attractive picture:

Random idea: Ilmavoimat MiG-29 serving alongside Ilmavoimat F/A-18Cs and in similar scheme as shown below:

Ah, the rare Fulcrum prototype trialling an experimental W-wing. Not many photos of that.

With Poland (and eventually other former users) turning their MiG-29s to the US, I wonder if they'll have temporary US markings before being sent to Ukraine? Or eventually Polish camo with Ukrainian markings?

It will be interesting to see

If it ever happens. ::)
Everyone thinks it's a great idea.
Nobody wants to be the nation from whence they were delivered. :o
-
Maybe deliver them to Afghanistan to be forwarded to Ukraine. I'm sure Russia won't be in too great a rush to go back there any time soon... :-X

Or sell them to the Swiss as a payment for something... and the Swiss sell them to Ukraine in exchange for wheat. No need to fly them to Switzerland or Germany, just deliver them to Ukraine.
Or just buy more drones and hunt down the TOS-1/TOS-2 tanks.

I like it. But there may be a simpler proposition than involving the Swiss ... although it would be a little riskier for Poland.
Poland already provides Moldova with aid of all sorts. And there is no love lost between Moldova and Russia (over the latter's support for breakaway Transnistria - the so-called 'Dniestrian Moldovan Republic'. In the past, the FARM proved largely incapable of operating MiG-29s and most of the FARM fighters were sold off.
So, 'donate' the SP's 28 MiG-29s to Moldova after getting behind-the-scenes guarantees that these fighters will be immediately passed on to Ukraine. The sale could be financed by the US Government (effectively removing ultimate legal responsibility from Warsaw).
Once the transfer was complete, Moldovan personnel could be trained in Poland to prepare for the future transfer of SP Sukhoi Su-22s to the FARM (to the Ukraine deal worth the risk to Chișinău).
... Or just buy more drones and hunt down the TOS-1/TOS-2 tanks.
Yep, but as-well-as rather than instead-of. UkAF Fulcrums provide top-cover and interception while additional Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey tackle the TOS. US-Turkish relations are awkward right now. Maybe Germany would be better-positioned to act as a guarantor on funding for a new tranche of Ukrainian TB2s?
Anyway, food for thought ... and great thread, guys

And now with MiG-29 sideview ... ;)
