Title: WWII style Space Fighters
Post by: taiidantomcat on December 11, 2016, 05:47:28 AM
Any futuristic takes or retro looking stuff? I'm looking for examples, and having a hard time ...

Not quite a WWII style space fighter but close enough (or at least I think so):  Manfred von Richthofen's aircraft from the movie "War of the Worlds: Goliath":

Someone modelled one too:

I intend doing something similar to the above using a 1/72nd P-40 plus some 1/72nd P-51 bits.

One day. ;)

There are 1/72 and 1/48 kits available too:

Oh wow!! That is excellent!  8) I thought I saw a kit, but I wasn't sure if it was just another CGI tease  >:D

@ Greg: I don't intend doing a replica of the Caprica Warhawk/WW2 Viper, just something inspired by it. ;)

@ TT: Now, there's something else to inspire a similar type of build! (Spitfire & Typhoon/Tempest look likely candidates for surgery) :)

One of the things Ive noticed is that its important to find good "layouts" as it is the actual craft. An interesting design/style can be transferred to a different subject, for example a Canard Super Hornet. Great stuff in this thread.

I know this thread is a bit old already... but I wanted to add in the awesome Me262 X-Wing mashup that Ben Stone did.  A really great project that made me realize you could take this hobby away from the instruction manual.

Reminds me of the Japanese "X-wing" from Star Warrior....which you can get kits of:

Sorry to resurrect and old thread, just browsing around.

XF-77 Falcon SF.1, Royal Navy, 2121. Built about 10 years ago from I think a 1/72 Dragon P-38
