I think these guys have monopolised the use of drop tanks as canoes…

There's one of those drop-tank boats in the Imperial War Museum in Manchester... ;D

Note that with the typical brilliance of journalists, the picture of a Phantom they used to illustrate the use of drop tanks is of an RAF F-4M that by definition, never went near Vietnam..... ::)

Nice possible inspiration for a diorama. That article reads like it was written for third graders. Plus I'll bet the farmers have been using these for years and someone finally noticed.

My father had a drop tank canoe, P-38 tank (I think).

There's a photo of him & a friend with it in an album my mother has. I think he was about 14 or 15 at the time (Czechoslovakia, 1942/43).

I know its not actually a drop tank...though one could possibly build a model of such using one.

Back during the 1970s, and American (Floridian) offered plans for an amateur-built light plane. The centre and rear fuselage were based upon a drop tank off of an F-86 Sabre, which provided most graceful curves for the up sweep aft of the single-eat cockpit. The sheet metal airplane was in the same size class as Parker's Jeeny's Teeny with a VW-engine and tricycle gear.
