USS Defiance
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:31:18 AM »
Here we go!  Now the Enterprise is pretty much done, it's time to start on my ship.

She'll be a modified Constitution class Heavy Cruiser, outfitted with some of the upgrades that would later be fitted to the Constitution II's (Star Trek: The Motion Picture - onwards).  She is designed to be a transport/c3 vessel for the Starfleet Marines.

Here are the primary hull lights just fitted...

Here are the main parts ready for assembly:

Just have to rebuild her support pylons so there is somewhere to run the power cables into the secondary hull - gotta make some Jeffries Tubes!

Basic plan - use drinking straw sections down the front edges of the pylons, then cover all over the pylons with angled plastic card sections to make semi swept pylons.

Good news is, I also have a spare Aztec decal set... ;)

Cheers!  Hopefully fun to build too!!

Going to be a little tricky to assemble, as with all the wires, she has to be put together all at once for it all to fit - and then I have to modify all the decals to fit as they are meant for the Constitution II's!!

Looking forward to seeing this one progress. I always want to try lighting something but it's either too expensive or my brain just can't grasp what needs to be done....DOH!  :-\ ;D  I've got an Enterprise NX-1 that's in the stash waiting for me to feel confident enough to do it up right but I keep thinking about lights.

Not expensive at all mate -

LED's from a local electronics store approx.          £5
Wires, switch, battery box, resistors approx.        £5
Solder, electrical tape, double sided tape approx. £4

Borrowed a Soldering iron from my brother in law, and some kitchen foil (light blocking) from the wife.

No need for those hundred pound odd lighting kits you may have seen on Starship Modeler, or eBay...

;D Wish I'd thought of that!!

She is looking very nice now - completed the saucer section and neck, moving on to the secondary hull now.

Have to say, the stands supplied with the TOS kit are sh*#e - mine bust almost immediately, so she is now sitting on one of those big ol' Airfix stands.  Wish they'd put the dome stand in with that kit!

Thanks!  The panels are basically the Round 2 refit decals, heavily modified to fit the slightly smaller ship - nice fit with a little forward planning!
