Title: Post Apoc Humvee
Post by: Buzzbomb on January 06, 2019, 04:22:15 PM
So on Saturday I decided to extract the digit and slammed together an early Tamiya Hummer, the version with the Bushmaster cannon. Quick easy 2 hour build, with suitable distractions.

So here is the raw material to work up what will most probably become a Post Apoc Hummer

Adding the bushmaster to a Post Apoc vehicle is probably a little over the top, but definitely more to follow one I get the vibe on where to take this.

Looks good so far buzzbomb. I have one of those in the stash and am trying to decide what to do with it. It could always be a Twilight 2000 Hummer. I know that they had them in the 2nd Edition of the game. Loaded up with all kinds of extras and pulling an ethanol still could be an option.

Looking forward to updates as this develops.  Looks like there's a lot of potential with this base kit.

Looks good! That early Tamiya (and the Italeri) make good blank canvases. If you want overkill, a Cockerill 90mm turret might fit...

Maybe fitting a 'skate ring' with a GPMG and mount to the hole in the roof would be a practical solution for arming your HMMWV?

Why do you hate the Maintenance Section?

Some form of twin belt-fed machinegun (in lieu of that heavy-ass 25mm) might be in order.

Where this vehicle was after things went into the crapper would dictate what sort of weaponry it'd haul, based on ammunition availability.

You could rob a 40mm Mk 19 from a Styker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU1l9v2KkI0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU1l9v2KkI0)

For example - if one of the local German tribes owned it, they might mount quad MG3s  (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/69/e1/cf/69e1cf91c5cdd7bdd04c769762196fcd.jpg)

Further East? Single or twin 12.7mm? http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNRussian_12.7mm-79_DShK.php (http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNRussian_12.7mm-79_DShK.php)

USMC Norway? How about a twin .50? http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_50cal-M2_MG.php (http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_50cal-M2_MG.php)

he asks the bloke who has the original boxed 3 book set of Dungeons and Dragons by Gygax and Arneson ? ;)
Yep, sure have and played as well. Have done a couple of t2000 Models, but my aim here is becoming what would I put on a vehicle in a Post Apoc scenario. My Bushmaster Zombie vehicle was done the same way, I am aiming for achieveable in a workshop and practical.
Although that many MG42 rig has a certain "yeah baby" in its own right..

I suppose I should be basing it on an Aussie G Wagon or a Hilux, but did not have one of those in the stash.
Mantra for this year is build 'em, don't buy 'em ???
Work is progressing.

I have sufficient Meng Hiluxes & LandCruisers to start a small bush war (3 or 4 of each ... I think ... ) & a fair number of Land Rover's, too (HobbyBoss & Italeri).

Oh, & 2 x Meng F-350's. ;)

Thanks guys, work continues

Settled on the basic layout, some guards/Guides/bars and lots of stowage.
Styrene work at this stage, with some etch for the window mesh

Just could not tear myself away from some sort of Zombie Plough attachment
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/AFV/hummer/hummer4.JPG)

Bit more stuff to go on, some preposterous weaponing up and see how it looks

For this set up you don’t want things to look too perfect. Needs to have some salvaged material thrown together look. Just my $0.02 worth.
I say that because your craftsmanship is awesome.

Looking good. The cow/zombie catcher looks effective. Does it swing up if needed or is it fixed?

Awesome! But it’s a Humvee. Hummers are those civic versions favored by pimps and drug dealers 😀

Fair point.. and I got a laugh as well.. cos' seeing a pimp/drug dealer in a post apoc situation has some interesting side stories.

and yes the box is ex FV-432

Just about there. Getting better wheels though, chunkier, more  ooomph.

so lotso stuff

don't all Post Apoc vehicles need a Barrett Sniper Rifle.. you know, just in case ?

plus other ready to hand surprises.

Bit more tweaking to go then paint ;)

Well thought out.  Lot to take in.  Particularly like PE and white plastic fabrication.
Is white tube solid or hollow ?    Use hair drier or what to bend it around what ?

It is solid round Styrene. On this build,  I used some jewellery looping pliers similar to these, as mine are a noname brand probably cheaper.

used carefully they work quite well, but sometime can leave a bit of a mark, but if you are not fussy, far less faffing around than the other tried and true methods mentioned such as hot water or hair drier.
Check out craft stores or craft markets. The Jewellery boys and girls have some quite neat toys and tools that are worth a look.

Because Graboids.  Wrong Rec Room - you're in it.

the HMMWV proceeds, albeit slowly. Much improved resin wheels only highlights the poor construction of the suspension. It is a bit see saw. Base will fix that

So paintshop and things are almost, almost there
considering you can see almost nothing of the gear in the back
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/AFV/hummer/hummer8.JPG)

Stuff needs to be tied on
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/AFV/hummer/hummer9.JPG)

Couple more bits to go on
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/AFV/hummer/hummer10.JPG)

Few final paint jobs, some final bits and bobs then back to you shortly with the finished model

How you and other armor builders decide what places to weather what way and then do weathering so well is beyond me.....

My stuff always looks like it just rolled out of the factory. Weathering is such an art and this is a great example.
