Title: The USSR Invades Japan at the End of WWII
Post by: GTX_Admin on May 17, 2013, 02:49:54 AM
What if the USSR managed to invade a significant part of Japan towards the End of WWII?  Would we see a Japanese version of Nth Korea or East Germany?

Was it even possible?  What other implications could there be?

Yeah, it was quite possible and a big fear of the US.  Some speculate that it was one of the reasons the US dropped the bombs.  The USSR was getting ready for an invasion of Hokkaido and was somewhat disappointed the war didn't last long enough for it to actually get a bigger piece of Japan.  If you ask some Japanese, they'd say that it was divided with Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands going permanently to Russia.

A divided Japan was a big fear for the US and its allies and a major worry for Japan, as well, especially considering how China and Korea went.

Thanks,

Logan

One of my long planned builds is a People's Democratic Republic of Nippon (PDRN) MiG-19.  Hence the scenario.

I also have a story idea whereby the nukes aren't used (maybe the Trinity test failed) and the USA invades Japan as does the USSR with a race o conquer the most.  In this I have been toying with the idea of using a German unit led by Kurt "Panzermeyer" Meyer as part of this...who knows it might even make it in time for the Beyond '46 GB ;).
