Yo-Granville Stratospheric
« on: August 29, 2016, 07:50:40 AM »
Clark Yo Jr. was known to have a keen interest in aviation matters. Though most of  his   designs were  one-offs, a handful of them, especially his collaborations, had some
commercial success. Chief among them was the massive and brutish, but surprisingly
comfortable YGB Stratospheric, doomed to go down in history as the "G-Beast".
We start with a venerable 1/48 Testors GeeBee, a simple but servicebale kit,

drill some windows and add some floors,

give it all the interior it needs...

give it a contra-prop to go with its 4300 hp Bahrkin-Mahd radial

and that's where she sits, becomming 1/144 scale in the process :) Debating color schemes as usual. I may have an armor project
up before the build ends as well.

Love it... it has that weird, "why not" type feel

Well done

Craig,
You've found a use for a GeeBee! It looks great so far; it has a "Things to Come" vibe to it. Or vaguely Russian.

Thanks, everybody! If I could afford it, I'd commission Bruce McCall to illustrate it - its got a real '46 Bulgemobile feel to it... ;)

Wondrous "Classy Funky" (what first came to mind). :)
AXOR nailed great scheme for manufacturer demo aircraft.
That or a defunct airline scheme.  Looks like regional mostly over land flying (one engine).  West Coast Airlines ?
Or make up an airline.

That's sheer genius, Doc!

It all works so wonderfully, the plump Gee Bee fuselage, extended canopy, contra props, and that way cool double-decker passenger cabin!

And then there's those incredibly sleek and streamlined spats:-*

Fantastic!

Well, well...

I'm after moving, just checking what's new and here it is! A Gee Bee liner :)

Friends, Colleagues - thank you all!

Alex, would you mind if I re-published your profile on my facebook page? I cannot tell you
how honored I feel to have  inspired that art.

Paint this weekend, I hope - but I also have to paint the bathroom. Which is not 1/144, alas.
