Would it be possible to run this GB a bit longer than usual, say 3 months - Oct 1st - Dec 31st.  One of the reasons I haven't been joining GB's lately is they're too short in duration, my build speed is governed by my day job load ---

I agree with this in general.  Were it not for the obligatory extensions, I'd have a hard time with some of them.

Cheers,

Logan

Up to the Mod I would say - I personally don't have any objection though.

I wouldn't mind having more time to finish of course  :)

However, I have one condition: With this GB being green lit so quickly before kick off on October 1st. I would ask everyone to help promote this GB to all the writers, profilers, and builders on the forum-- especially as they only have couple days to "start the model before the first day" if they want to participate in the GB and don't have already anything that needs finishing. (BTW if you know anyone here who actually finishes everything they start, or has nothing but finished projects, please report them to your local authorities so they can be questioned and receive help  ;D )

So get out there and PM some friends, and invite some friends over to the forum from elsewhere too, if someone teased you by starting something awesome and then never finished it, get a hold of them tell them you want to see that awesome something finished in this GB.

Lets get as many models, stories, and art finished this year as we can  :)

I'm game dude!  I actually just finished cleaning off my bench and giving it a good dusting.  Crap finds its way into every little corner...  My God how refreshing it is to just clean it all off and start something new.

Greg if you don't mind I'm going to finally get your Comet equipped Zerstroyers done.  I've been starting and stopping that build so darn many times its driving me insane.  I finalized the design recently so its time to start seriously whacking up plastic besides just doing the prep work and sanding off the parts I don't need.

Maybe I'll finish up a profile or two as well since I have several still in the line drawing stage.

Time to clear the benches people!!  You'll be amazed at how good it feels!!!!  8)

Know what you mean about bench cleaning.
Mine is in total disarray.  Needs major clean up.
Have PBH-417 and Arizona based gun boat to finish.

I have a scary list of unfinished projects, and I won't be able to take advantage of the early start because modelling is grinding to a halt now due to committments to Other Things.

On the list of easyish completes:

M113s project. This is probably the favorite for getting done.

Helivan: a helicopterized Skyvan that I started for a Group Build and then dropped (literally) just before the deadline, making it impossible to finish on time. It's perfectly repairable though, and I'd like to see it done.

Yak-40-something: a Sovietized Mystere IV that fell victim to a paint malfunction. Again recoverable, and with a backstory I'm itching to see out in the world...

Avro Atom: one of the first whiffs I ever started and always the bridesmaid as it's been put aside for just about every GB since. Easy enough to finish, but the original photography/supporting material plan was pretty ambitious and might not see the light of day.

Corsair Hunter X4: an alien law-enforcement space fighter that I started for the sci-fi themed build on What If and then got bogged down in a kind of "builder's block" over the strict rules I'd set for myself. Mostly resolved now, so it could go ahead again. There's also a complimentary Vebian Buccaneer ship to with it, but that's just a pile of unsuspecting bits at the moment...

I already have a picture started but a few days to let people start something that they can then finish looks like a good idea... ;)

A generic "clean your workbench" is likely the only group build I'd get a chance to actually finish anything in.

The trick is what to pick .................

Tanks?

Or Planes?

Ok did a little reaserach last nite and made a choice.

The PZIV is probably too far off. It was an early mock up and used parts from Tamiya kits I'd built when I was 15. I'd like to do it properly with new kits for better detail. The 254 I could do in addition but .......

I've decided to finish the SE5A. It's been bugging me for a couple of years now as I couldn't decide on a suitably amusing scheme and so it just sat there.  I wanted to do it as Lord Flashhearts plane from Blackadder Goes Forth but I couldn't settle on a typical Flashheart colour, found something last night tho so it's all go. I'll be glad to get it done and off my list.

Yeah my problem though is over-promising and then delivering nothing  :-X :D

Having just read Logan's comment on how his Midway Viking had been in the making for over four years, how about a special "ranking" at the end of the GB, commemorating the whif finished for the GB that's taken the longest to complete?  :P

Not fair, lazy people like me have kits in progress since the mid 80s.

The 80s?

I once finished off an RCAF Starfighter that I'd started in 1972 and just managed it in time for the IPMS-UK Nationals in 1998!  :D

During the 80s I used to complete and average of one kit a fortnight, the limitation being I could only afford to by one a fortnight.  It was the expensive birthday, or birthday money ones that didn't get finished as I wanted them to be perfect, hence procrastination......

I almost stopped modelling, 1981-1999, because of this "perfect" status required by magazines. I started again to build and finish when my standards were lowered down, in a satisfaction/effort ratio improvement...

Besides the two Vought Vikings and one Heinkel He 46G that I've already submitted, I have the following profiles that are largely unfinished that should be eligible for this GB and I might (with luck) finish.  I've included their estimated "in progress" time in parentheses.

1x Martin B-51 Panther (4 years, 4 months)
1x Vought Viking (3 years, 8 months)
1x Heinkel He 46G (1 year, 9 months)
1x Martin B-51 Panther (1 year, 5 months)
1x Northrop P-61F Widow (5 months)

My expected order of completion is He 46G, B-51, Viking, and P-61F.  The first three are just going to require paint schemes.  The last two are going to need lighting/shading (structural) work.  Of the 5 remaining profiles to complete 1 of them is all on me, two of them are collaborations with Talos where he's already gotten me everything on my and it will just be up to me to complete, and the last two are going to be dependent on Talos wrapping up some pieces so we can get those finished.

So, if everything goes to plan, I'll have 8 total submissions to this GB.  Then again, if everything went according to plan, I wouldn't have had 8 unfinished profiles sitting around on my hard drive!!!

Cheers,

Logan

Those are significant "in progress" times.  Do you have figures for "in stagnation" times?
PBH-417 build had a lot of the later.  ;)
