Been long time fan of P-26 (built one early 70s) and now is Snot-a-maula swept wing variant. Inspired me to stop other models to build RP-26 high altitude recon version.
Magister wings are perfect fit to P-26 fuselage. Painting, gluing, minor styrene surgery are well started. Should have progress pictures soon.
Something simpler for a change !

Like a miniature Vickers Wellesley then ----
-
Quick picture. Wings not glued. Front ones not quite straight. Good for general concept.
Having usual paint problems. Will fix.
-
Few things delight me more than Peashooter whiffs and it looks like you're well on the way to making a real stunner!
Those Magister wings fit like a glove. Makes me think of a faster, U.S. competitor to the Bristol Type 138 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Type_138).

Obvious resemblance with Wellesley and Type 138.

Ooo, this looks very cool!

Back at building. In final phase.
To be truly high altitude cut turbosupercharger off underside of B-17 and installed in belly of RP-26. Found scoopy scoop for supercharger intake and intercooler for under right wing. Extended nose a pinch for supercharger plumbing room. Propeller storage bin yielded 3-blader with wider & longer blades than stock P-26. Good for grabbing high altitude air. Recon camera to be under left wing. Typhoon/Tempest vacuform Squadron canopy looks to work.
Then,,, what USAAC decal version to use ?
-
I'm thinking mid-1943 U.S. markings with the red outline. Should work nicely with those loooonnggg wings.
But then again, I'm always a sucker for oddball markings.

After week out of town and various life's duties, made progress.
Paint issues to address. Always fighting the paint demons. Decals to do. Briefing page to finish (do one for each build).
Paint only gets soooo good and declare it finished. In high school and college paints were more agreeable.
See attached pictures.

That looks extremely good Bill

Really like this :P

Looking good.
-
Wow already looks like a million bucks and the markings aren't even on yet!
Great stuff!

Thanks.
Am pleased how concept-configuration turned out.
Some paint attention and decals will do it.
-
It looks good - the canopy gives it a (single engine) Curtis AT-9 look. The supercharger looks great!
-
This is what a RP-26 looks like. Took photos against darker background. Seem better.
Was way past due to finish a model. Try to do more in 2019.
Three photos + briefing page. Print briefing and display next to models at shows. Adds context for viewer.
More photos coming.

Pictures bring out sheen of old decals for tail number 551 (Renwal army vehicle decal). Probably replace them.
Old OOB P-26 is around here. Find it,,, will put both in one picture. Post later.
B-17 turbosupercharger does fill P-26 belly.
Cheers

Nice kitbash, looks really good
Nice one!

That is one superb, high-flying Peashooter!
The mods are outstanding (love the intakes, turbocharger & camera!) and the color/marking scheme a winner all the way!
The brief was also an enjoyable read and makes it more of a "whish-it-was" than a what if.

With that kind of wing it looks like a 1930's U-2. Love it. :D :-*
-
Those RP-26 comments are appreciated - Thanks.
Kelly Johnson mighta got early U-2 inspiration from RP-26. We will never know.
When elusive OOB P-26 shows itself will take picture of both together.
-
Masterful Bill, we will have to give it the 'BdB' award ---
-
Thank you and thanks for the award....
At my mediocre skill level takes an effort to build RP-26.
When find OOB P-26 WILL post picture of two together.
