Title: WW 1 biplane rigging
Post by: arkon on February 22, 2016, 02:34:02 PM
With my recent purchase of a Revell DH2 I would like to try to rig it properly.
I have never done this at this scale. I have always been of the thought that at this scale it does not matter.
During my recent outing to modelfiesta16 in San Antonio I saw several WW1 aircraft rigged and was quite impressed. Some looked as though they had used "wire" as thin as hair.
I have access to some brass wire that is quite small( it's out in the shop so I can't give exact diameter right now).was wondering if I should try to cut it to length and glue it in or try to drill holes in the wing and stretch sprue between them.
Also I have a few books on WW1 aircraft but trying to figure out by them is quite difficult.
I know wingnut wings has some online instructions for some of their models ( I think they make a dh2) but does anybody know of other online resources that may help.
I do realize a dh2 may not be the best choice for my first attempt at rigging at this scale
Thanks if you can help
Mike.

LOL, yes probably.

I use invisible thread, which is strong but flexible.
Depending on what you want visually, generally the method I have previously used involved drilling a hole in the top and bottom of the strut and threading the invisible thread through.
Pretty much that way you can almost use a continuous thread for each side.
Not sure how well that method would work on a DH2 at that scale though.
