Does anyone know if TANMODEL have released their new F-5 model kit yet? I couldn't see anything definitive on the website (click logo below to go to it.)

Greg: They just released their 1/48 RF-84F. There is a review of the kit over at Cyber Modeler (http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/tan/kit_tan_2201.shtml).

RF-84F is candidate for F404 upgrade as done with Skyhawk.

Such a picture !

Great cover art! 8) :)
Now, will the model be better than the old Airfix offering? ???
-
Excellent!
-
That boxart is stunning. That's worth selling as a print.

Having built the Airfix one I can tell you it wouldn't be difficult to make a better 1/48 kit of the Bucc.

What he said.

As ugly as this thing is, one almost has to put on a photo nose that's all extended like on the Kfir. And yes, Israeli markings to match.

Be simpler to just develop a recce variant of the rotary bomb bay, since they can be fairly easily swapped out.

A Bucc photo-recce version? Who are you going to snap photos of from 200 feet up?
"What is this? A recce version for ants?"

Make me wonder about a carrier based (or otherwise) ASW variant with mini sonobuoys in weapons bay and perhaps a torpedo under each wing (maybe faired into the fuel tanks). This could fill a role somewhat similar to the supposed Su-32FN.
-
Anyone make the conversion parts for that recce set-up? That'd be something different to see, perhaps as recce support for Desert Storm.

Yes, apparently Alley Cat Models does in 1/72 which I think is the old Odds & Ordnance conversion

And also Aviation Workshop did one, if you can find one these days.
Here's a good web page
http://z13.invisionfree.com/Flying_Stations/ar/t273.htm (http://z13.invisionfree.com/Flying_Stations/ar/t273.htm)
I could see it going into a Canberra too --
-
Was the Recce system fixed or did it rotate when not in use leaving a smooth faced bombbay door?
-
Fixed replacement for the doors I believe
-
I've been told that Aviation Workshop did a recce pack in 1/48.
EDIT: and also Heritage Aviation did a 1/48 conversion. However I've just discovered that like Aviation Workshop, Heritage Aviation is no more ---- (but it has been bought up by someone).

Sadly, little from the old Heritage Aviation.
Have a look in the 'Simian Stuff' section.

Thanks Paul, and yeah, got that link already. That's where I read about Heritage stuff has gone (in the news section). Kits for Cash was called Heritage Aviation before the owner changed it's name and now it seems he's sold it to some mysterious buyer --- he also mentions that a lot of the Heritage stuff got destroyed, I'm thinking in his recent move but he doesn't say very much about what happened.

It rotates, look at the diagram of the overall installation above where it says "CAMERA PACK SHOWN MOUNTED ON THE BOMB DOOR AND ROTATED TO THE OPERATIONAL POSITION". So it would be rotated only for the photo run. I wonder if those pods would fit the bulged door of the RAF versions? It would be interesting to do a dedicated Buccaneer SR.2 variant, perhaps with options for ELINT gear, too.

Good pick up

If you scroll down through the link I attached in post #21 Evan, there's a bunch of pics of RAF recce birds. The pics though would seem to suggest the pack is exposed all the time.
-
It seems to have been carried in the exposed position a lot of the time, but the July 27, 2012 entry from "Sketchy74" on that thread clearly says that it rotates. As does the diagram I referenced earlier which is from a Hawker-Siddeley S.2 brochure (per post by "Airtrooper" in that thread on September 28, 2013).

Perfect candidate for rescaling - maybe add a cockpit?

I saw the sprue shots of the SPAAG on line.. eehh.. its OKaaay. Looks like they have moulded a *lot* of detail on to the upper hull. It'll be a quick build in that regard.
