Brengun
« on: December 19, 2012, 09:21:05 AM »
The surface to air missile known as Wasserfall (Waterfall) is now available as a 1:72nd scale multi-media model kit from Brengun in the Czech Republic.

1:72nd scale EMW C2 Wasserfall (kit number BRP72002)
Click on thumbnail image or html to visit see Brengun product page for this model.

Mark Davies has uploaded a nice in-box review to HyperScale showing additional kit parts which can be viewed at this link: Brengun 1:72nd scale EMW C2 Wasserfall (kit number)

If the price was a bit lower I could see myself getting a half-dozen or so of these models to use as the basis for a couple of flavours of bomb and missile on a 1:48th scale project.

I keep thinking that it would be interesting to use several Wasserfall kits in a diorama of a WW II German anti-aircraft ship off the coast with a mix of these and 88mm or larger guns.

The thing that immediately struck me was to mount one or two Wasserfalls on a tracked chassis, with the director on another vehicle.

Perhaps base such material on Soviet "FROG" SSM launchers?

Yes, or something like the SA-4 Ganef vehicle, maybe based on a Nashorn chassis with the superstructure cut down:

I got one of the Wasserfalls at the Crewe show: nice little kit.

Having read up on the missile, I've kind of gone off the tracked TEL idea for a couple of reasons:

1. Wasserfall launched from a free-standing position and was stable in 35mph winds, so it didn't need a rail and/or vehicle to hold it up.

2. It was liquid fuelled using hypergolic propellants, so given the relatively high risk of getting a huge explosion instead of a launch (due to dodgy slave-labour late-war production standards), you'd want as few people and hardware near it as possible at the moment you pushed the button.

So what I'm thinking about now is two Sdkfz.7 half-tracks:

1. a standard artillery tractor towing the missile on a skeletal transporter/erector trailer,

2. a flat-bed flakwagon with the AAA mount replaced by the missile's visual director, which I'm presuming would look something like the Enzian's, i.e. a rotating/elevating frame holding two "deck chairs", binoculars and black boxes.

Rob Baumgartner has shared several product reviews of Brengun products in 1:144, 1:48, & 1:32 scales at HyperScale that you might be interested in.

Quite amazing to see a nude 1:144th scale DH2 sans fabric cover.

Seems like every time I look at the Brengun/Hauler pages there's more cool/funny stuff there. Here's the links, plus a few examples (go look for yourself though, I can't list all the neat stuff):

Brengun : http://www.hauler.cz/e-shop/brengun-3
Hauler : http://www.hauler.cz/e-shop/hauler-2

There are 11 pages of 1/48th AFV accessories and loads of 1/35th stuff too.

1/72nd underwear on the washing line (think of the diorama possibilities! ;D )

1/144th Avrocar

1/144th ALCM (which implies a 1/72nd one might be on the way...)

1/144th Penny-Farthing   :D

Beer Spitfire (1/144th, 1/72nd & 1/48th)

Tools, chairs and buckets (various scales)

1/72nd Weasel and Water Weasel   :-*

1/72nd M35 & 8" gun (also available separately with gun in travelling or firing setup)

Skis in various scales (not as daft as it looks: how many vehicles have skis strapped to the outside?)

Skoda 42cm howitzer in 1/35th   :o

Hmmm...tempted...don't know why.

Because the voices in your head are saying: "Greg, this would make a great scale-o-rama kit. Replace the nose with a B-57, add larger wings and you have a cool 1/72 pulse engine fighter-bomber".

That's why.

Agreed. In lieu of a Pe-8, would Lancaster, Halifax, Stirling or Lincoln be a reasonable  substitute?

That might work. Maybe the RAF do similar to the USAF and develop a version of it after capturing V-1s.  They could use it in an airborne role similar to that played with with the B-17/JB-2:

Would still like a 1/48 Pe-8 though...

If this had the props, then I could upgrade my AC-130's engines quite nicely.

I had looked at Attach Squadron's offerings for the C-130, but never pulled the trigger before they got out of the resin business.

Looks fairly accurate from what I remember from when I worked on it.  I definitely see some aspects that I remember well..

Now that they have this, I wonder if a Bell Model 406 will be coming out, or an OH-58D, though the under-nose turret would be more applicable to the stillborn OH-58F.
