To begin with, what about South African AMX-13s instead of Centurions?

How about a closer-co-operating Germany and France? German Army buys the AMX-13 and VCI series instead of the M113, and the French Army buys the Leo-I instead of the AMX-30.

OR, IRL, I couldn't see the British Army buying them because at the time, they thought they had to have a British-style right-hand driving position, hence developing the FV432 instead of buying the M113, while the AMX-13 had a left-side one. However they subsequently abandoned this idea (see the Warrior) so what if they abandoned it earlier? You could see the British Army buying the AMX-13 and VCI. Perhaps that might lead to the turreted version of the F2 105mm SPG going into production (only got as far as a prototype IRL) instead of the Abbot.

In whiff-world, you could "sell" AMX-13s to any real-world users of Chaffees, Walker-Bulldogs, Saladins, Scorpions or PT-76s.

I only need a AMX-13 turret for a Marder-conversion. It was a real exist test-vehicle.

Nice one. :)

Wasn't there also a test vehicle with the turret mounted on a Saurer 4K-7FA chassis? (not that you can get a kit of that as far as I know...)

Using its turret to rehabilitate WWII-era medium tanks.

It'd look good on some of the British cruiser tanks like the Cromwell or Comet. Not sure if the original 75mm gun is much of an upgrade on the Comet's 17pdr, but the 90mm and 105mm versions would be worth it.

AMX-13 turret (FL-12) on a MOWAG Shark weapons platform (never made it into production):

Isn't the turret of Sk 105 a variant of AMX-13's turret?

And isn't a variant of Sk 105 turret armed with muzzlebrake-equipped 105mm L7?

Was the oscillating turret a bit of a dead end? It doesn't seem to have adopted generally.

Yes to both. It's a Fives-Cail Babcock FL-12 (when it's 105mm).

Pretty much. There are two problems with the AMX-13 turret:

1. There are only 12 rounds in the bustle-mounted autoloader. Even if the vehicle carriers more (and most ), they have to be loaded into the autoloader from outside.

2. It's difficult to NBC seal the gap between the turret upper and lower. The AMX-13 has a canvas seal, but it's vulnerable to wear and tear and battle-damage.

Weaver thank you.
I always wondered about the efficacy of a system that has a canvas cover like the AMX. Wouldn't it have even been vulnerable to small arms fire?

Indeed. The armour overlaps so the bullet can't get through to the interior, but it still rips the fabric. Of course all fabric mantle covers have this issue, but the AMX-type turret has a lot more square footage of it than most.

You might have a state that changes from Eastern to Western suppliers and uses the 105mm armed FL-12 turret as an upgrade on PT-76 or Chinese Type 63 (? The PT-76-lookin' one with an 85mm) chassis.

Yup- the M4 happened in real-life, I attempted mental notes on Cromwell and Comet, and I was thinking that Panzers III and IV as well as T-34-76 would make good candidates......

Using its turret to rehabilitate WWII-era medium tanks.

Not sure if the original 75mm gun is much of an upgrade on the Comet's 17pdr, but the 90mm and 105mm versions would be worth it.

I was thinking that 1960s might be plausible for 105mm gun, but hey, North Korea kept their T-34-76 all the way until now......

EDIT:  It seems like T-34-76 is out- Strv m/42's 1500mm turret ring can't take the two-man autoloader turret, and T-34-76 has it even smaller (1420mm)......

AMX-13/105 Yonkav 2 is an Indonesian version of retrofit AMX-13/75 or 90 retrofit packet.

The plan was to upgrade the remaining AMX-13/75 or 90 that still in the army (despite many were being retired for the upcoming the Kaplan tank and Alvis Scorpion).

While the gun itself have the same upgrade packet that provided by the manufacturer (Nexter), which from 75mm CN90 F3 Cannon to 105mm CN105G1. And the turret was changed into FL-12.
