Throwing my ushanka into the ring.
MIG-41 Interceptor, successor to the MIG-31.
Will be using the cockpit and engines from a MIG-31 kit.

Don't have any concrete construction plans but hopefully it'll turn out like the image I have in my head.

The most tedious part of the build: R-37 missile fins attached. I also cut the wings off so I can re-position them, felt they were maybe a bit too far back.

Also a question for the experts (both real and armchair). Is it possible to launch a missile from a plane at supersonic speeds. Say for example the bomb bay doors retract inwards and missiles are lowered by trapeze mechanism.

For what you are trying to do with your model, the method of high-speed launch from the weapons bay of the aircraft is achieved by ejecting the missile down and away from the aircraft to gain sufficient distance from the aircraft to then ignite the rocket motor and begin the intended mission.

The F-102 and F-106 had such a trapeze device for the Falcon missile. However, the doors opened outward.

Yeah, it's supposedly doable. NAA had something like that worked up for the F-108. IIRC, that had a door that retracted into the fuselage. Too, the YF-12 launched from supersonic speeds and extended the missile on a trapeze through outward-opening doors. You almost have to have the trapeze to get the missile clear of the boundary layer, and to make certain the seeker has a proper lock before launch. At launch, the missile gets kicked down and away to fully clear the aircraft before ignition.

Depends on the timeframe and seeker type. Modern IR homing missiles have lock-on after launch capability. Radar-homing missiles are always in practice lock-on after launch, unless they are active homing instead of passive/beam-riding and fired at a short range when the active seeker head can be turned on at launch.
